Next Years Draft

I was looking at Bleacher Report and found an interesting article on next years "Top 10 Draft Picks".

I thought this would be something fun to talk about while we await free agency and sit through the off-season.

In the article the writer has this following order:

1. Nail Yakupov (RW) (Obviously)
2. Jacob Trouba (D)
3. Nick Ebert (D)
4. Mikhail Grigorenko (RW) (Very talented player, but SERIOUS RUSSIAN FACTOR ISSUES)
5. Griffin Reinhardt (D)
6. Henrik Samuelsson (RW) (Son of Ulf)
7. Alex Galchenyuk (C)
8. Zemgus Girgensons (C)
9. Olli Maata (D)
10. Morgan Rielly (D)

Lots of defenseman. One player who stuck out to me, was Zemgus Girgensons and I thank his name for making me interested.

Girgenson 6"1' 181 lbs, is a hard ****ing worker and has good talent as well. He put up 29 points (17-12) in 19 games in the EmJHL and put up 28 points (11-17) in 23 games in the EJHL. Then playing for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL, he put up 49 points (21-28) in 51 games and put up 7 points (4-3) in 5 games at the U20 WJC's. Stats: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=59843

Some interesting things on him:

Quote:
“He’s dominant down the middle,” says Fighting Saints Coach Jim Montgomery. “He’s a complete player who works as hard defensively as he does offensively."
Quote:
His coach brings up names such as Jonathan Toews and Mark Messier to describe the youngster’s will.
Quote:
“At the beginning of the year, we had all our players write down their two best attributes,” Montgomery recalled. “Zemgus wrote ‘puck protection’ and ‘I will never give up.’ And I couldn’t agree more. I describe him as a relentless player. His intensity, his never-say-die attitude; you would think he comes from Moose Jaw.”
He will be attending the University of Vermont next season and it will be very interesting to see how he does. A player I am definitely going to follow closely.

I LIKE THIS KID A LOT

Thoughts?

PS: I have no clue why I can't post the article link here. Does HF have an anti-BlecherReport clause?

I don't know if that was general or towards me, but I didn't write the article.

Yakupov, Grigorenko and Galchenyuk...

All 3 are amazing offensive talents.

Ebert is my favorite defenseman of the group. I think Trouba is pretty overrated, personally. My least favorite player of the top group for 2012. Murray, Reinart and possibly even Rielly all seem better to me. Never saw this Latvian kid play, but I've heard a lot of things about him and he sure sounds intriguing.

Ebert and Murray are so good offensively, it's scary.

Forsberg and Samuelsson are both pretty damn good. They'd be great together, actually. Forsberg is a hell of a scorer, and Sammy is a hell of a passer. The other Swede, Collberg, he's a nice all-around forward as well.

This draft is stacked. Oh, and just my personal opinion, but Bleacher Report kinda sucks.

Hoping we draft as far away as possible from top-10.

is it too early for a 2012 draft thread

seriously though, all the russian bias stuff will be tested next june when 3 of the top 10 guys are all russian players.

grigorenko is the real deal.

oh, and that list leaves off quite a few studs. 12 is looking to be a very strong year.

An early favorite for me is Nicolas Kerdiles of the USNTDP and (now former) teammate of J.T. Miller.

Another big, skilled forward with great character.

I believe he will be going to Wisconsin U.

If we were ever to suck bad enough to get the top pick it should be to get a guy named Nails.

Hoping we aren't in any position to get these guys next year BUT I'd love to see Yakupov and Galchenyuk test the Rangers anti-Russian policy. Two badass players right there.

sadly, the only teams with shots at the top players are the teams that intentionally try to be there.

His performance in the CHL didn't live up to the hype. Still, it's only one year and he could easily rise back into the first round if he puts up a good showing this coming year. Even if he doesn't, he could be an intriguing mid-round pick a la McColgan based on the early potential. (Although there is the worry that as an October birthday he could have benefited from always being older than his peers growing up.)

If he drops I'd want to snatch him. Also depends on where we finish next year. Truthfully I'd be happy with the 1st pick next year or the 30th pick. If the 1st means we get top of the line talent in Yakupov I'd go for him. So I'll be happy iwth a cup next year, or I'll be happy with Yakupov. Win, Win.

It'd be SO sick to grab Yakupov somehow... realistically, what would you give up for that #1?

This draft is stacked no doubt. I'm gonna be pretty ticked off if we trade our top picks between now and next June

I think I have the Russians ranked exactly how you listed them, for now. All 3 are gamebreakers, amazing hands on all of them. Grigorenko is the youngest of the 3 with the most size. Galchenyuk gets the least talk but he would be a phenomenal haul for any team at #3.

Frk was on a young team that was dominated on a nightly basis. 16 yrs old, yet he was still the teams 2nd leading scorer. Although not on the tier with Yakupov, he has some very nice skills.

Lets not forget this tidbit: Par Djoos son Christian Djoos, LH Dman, 2012 eligible
