Who do you want as the new Sens backup July 1st?

Thought I would get a pole going, not the most exciting position to fill but should be interesting to see who the Sens go with.

My vote goes to Harding, Auld, Garon in that order.

Theodore

He is from MTL, a veteran (35 years old in sept), he had respectable stats the last two season with Wash - .911 and Minny - .916

Lalime. He's cost-efficient, is a great team player and a solid if unspectacular player.

Why aren't we re-signing McElhinney?

Doesn't really matter to me who our backup is, Conklin just seems like the most likely choice.

....if we do not sign him, I will be somewhat surprised.

Garon.
He's an EXCELLENT goalie whose only downside seems to be an inability to carry the load long-term. A perfect "every 6th game" goalie, brings his "A" game when called upon, as long as he's not called upon every night for 5 months in a row.

Perfect fit for this team, IMO. If Anderson ever gets hit with an injury, I imagine Lehner will get a look anyways (not saying Lehner is an NHL starting goalie right now, far from it. However, if the team is expected to be in rebuilding mode, I see no reason not to call him up once or twice and toss the kid a few games in the bigs every now and again).

Conklin. Profession back-up goalie, a known non-disruptive factor who is competent in nets and capable of some very good stretches. He's a mature pro's pro and understands what his job is.

sensjersey11 - Good pitch for Garon, sounds like he would be an ok plan B.

And just NO to Lalime. If the Sens played in a bubble without fan or media interaction, he would likely be fine. But he will need three locker stalls to hold all the baggage he would bring back to Ottawa. This year is about leaving the past behind, rebuilding and focussing on the future. Lalime is a poster child for FAIL in the playoffs and will just be a negative flashpoint for to many media and fans. Fair or not, this is not what the Sens require.

He and Anderson also train together in the summer.

Done deal imo.

Why would we sign Lalime? Do people realize that when they (The Sabres) want to give Miller a break, they call up Enroth instead of giving Lalime the start.

He's not an NHL goaltender.

Why not give Emery a one year deal?

If he plays half as well as he's capable of he's worth it.

Which is exactly what we want to do as well with Lehner.

Lehner should only come up to the big club due to injury. We should have a serviceable backup.

That's his point, Miller was injured so they brought up Enroth.

In all honesty, I'd want Emery back, but since that isn't likely to happen, I'll say Lalime. Still one of the best goaltenders we've ever had and I choose to remember the Flyers series instead of the Leafs ones.

Garon would be awesome. One of the best backups in the league IMO.

For me, it's a tie between Garon/Auld. I believe both would do a great job backing up Andy.

Theodore or Garon would be perfect. Pricier backups but worth it, considering we have the cap space to spend. With the youth and inexperience on our team, our goalies will likely get peppered with shots, so if Anderson gets dinged up, its best to have a very capable goalie.

Split time 60/22 kind of thing.

I always liked Auld.

Good guy in the room, knows his role.

We don't want to threaten Anderson by bringing in old starters from Ottawa's playoff past.

OK OK my heart says Barry Brust as back up for Ottawa.

I am biased forgive me please, if not for Barry Binghamton would not have not have made the playoffs........

He carried the team until he got hurt in the Manchester series then Robin took over we all know the rest
Thank God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But reality sets in and those goalies listed are better choices to back up in Ottawa.

I would go with Alex Auld liked him before when he was with Ottawa. So Alex Auld is my choice..........
