Having an American Captain

just a random thought...

if the rangers happen to win a stanley cup while callahan is captain (*knock on wood*), he would be just the second american captain in nhl history to win the cup. that's a pretty cool bit of trivia when the rangers had the first american born conn smythe winner (and one of only two [thomas]).

Frankly, I think it's a great honor for a historically American team like the Rangers to be represented by an American. I love that our captain is from the USA.

Cally
Dubi
Boyle
McD
Stepan
Sauer

i have an immense amount of pride in american hockey so it's great to see so many americans have big roles on the rangers:

callahan (C)
dubinsky
stepan
mcdonagh
sauer
boyle
rupp
and kreider and miller in the system.

not to mention torts and sully.

in that case he would also have something in common with messier if he wins the cup with the rangers.

With the influx of Americans on this roster one could still argue that the Canadians are the best players on this team.
Arguable our 3 best defencemen and best forward are all Canadian.

No a nice thing would be a Conn Smythe. A freakin' awesome thing would be a Stanley Cup. That being said, the road is long and we still have much of the mountain to climb to get there.

We care. The majority of Rangers fans are Americans and it's great to be able to say your franchise has only one of few Americans who was able to win a trophy.

While we are on the topic of american hockey, whats the chances of Cally being captain of the olympic team, given they are allowed to go to Sochi in 2014?

I think Parise or maybe Kesler gets that role before Callahan does.
