Too young for AHL. It's Juniors or Rangers for Thomas. I could see him getting a 9 game stint and then evaluate the situation.

Forgot about that.
It wouldn't hurt to play 9 games if he performs well in training camp.

Good find. There's videos of Stepan and McDonagh there too.

Incorrect, since he was not drafted out of the CHL, he can play in the AHL.

Doesn't mean he will but he can

He was drafted out of the CHL though.

I think you're confusing Thomas with Miller.

It is well known by everyone that Thomas can't play in the AHL this year.

So does Dale Weise.

I'm hardly excited about guys like this anymore.

Team Canada U20 (WJHC) CHL Invite Roster

Defencemen:
Nathan Beaulieu, Saint John Sea Dogs, Cody Ceci, Ottawa 67's, Jerome Gauthier-Leduc, Rimouski, Oceanic, Brandon Gormley, Moncton Wildcats, Erik Gudbranson, Kingston Frontenacs, Dougie Hamilton, Niagara IceDogs, Scott Harrington, London Knights, Martin Lefebvre, Quebec Remparts, Joe Morrow, Portland Winterhawks, Ryan Murphy, Kitchener Rangers, Ryan Murray, Everett Silvertips, Stuart Percy, Mississauga St. Michael's Majors, Matthew Petgrave, Owen Sound Attack, Mark Pysyk, Edmonton Oil Kings, Duncan Siemens, Saskatoon Blades

ummm...... the 10th pick in the 2010 draft wasnt invited ?

why am i not surprised ?

in spite of the msg hype machine and all the local (bought and paid for) media drooling over how much big mac "improved" since last year, looks like there are some that might not share that opinion.

oh, thats right.... guys like "the undertaker" arent chosen for this kinda team. thats right. i forgot. but pretty much every other dman taken in that draft was....

hang on a second while i put on my kevlar vest. ok fire away.

Yet he's a more physical version of Cam Fowler, the guy you have a huge ***** for.

I'm not saying anything about Mcilrath, but if you're down on MDZ I don't know how you're high on Fowler, who played defense just as bad, and did just as much with more weapons at his disposal.

whoa whoa.

i didnt bring up mdz. i was commenting on drsutton saying he wasnt chosen for the canadian u20 team.

his recent struggles are well documented while last season fowler put up very solid offensive numbers. neither plays alot of competent defense, ill give you that, but one of them played the whole year in the nhl. the other ... not so much.

no matter what you say about fowler v. mdz, you cant deny the fact that one of them might not even play in the nhl to start the season while the other might be a year or two away from an allstar team.

A few people were saying the same thing about MDZ at the end/middle of last season.

Fowler has played 1 year in the NHL. And, while he is an impressive offensive defenseman, he is a horrible defensive player - he is worse than Del Zotto. Quite clearly, too.

Who's to say Fowler doesn't suffer the same struggles that Del Zotto did last year?

well played

fyi, a professional nhl scouting staff working for the phoenix coyotes drafted lisin 50th overall in 2004.

another professional nhl scouting staff traded lauri korpikoski, a former 1st round draft pick, for him in 2009.

thats 2 professional scouting staffs that made a similar mistake.

i guess im in good company.

Not to mention the Ducks D depth compared to our D depth. If Del Zotto was a Ducks player, he's in the NHL all year last year.

Teah, but the conversation was taking a shift towards MDZ and it's VERY well documented you like Fowler a lot more than McIlrath.

The same thing that happened to MDZ can happen to Fowler, albeit it's less likely because the Ducks offense is stacked.

Just saying I don't think it's fair to attack McIlrath over this when it's obvious there's a lot involved with Mcilrath and the WJC itself. He's a project, blah blah blah, no need to go back into this argument, I just don't think it's justified over the WJC. MDZ didn't go to the world juniors and had a very good rookie season. Seguin didn't go either.

If he goes back to juniors and plays like he did this year, then i'll be on your wagon .

Maybe I just took the "learning to play defense" barb a little too seriously, that was a little harsh, but really I guess he will be honing his defense.
