After this, Stamkos is a UFA - look out! Unless, that is, Tampa qualifies him every year until he's 28 or whatever. That would mean something like a 15% raise every year though.

So what he's saying is that if a team signs him to a 1 year deal worth $10m, Tampa is screwed.

If Tampa had to match that price in qualifiers every year with a 15% raise, wouldn't that eventually surpass the 20% of the salary cap that is allowed for a single player (providing that the cap doesn't increase)?

If Tampa doesn't match, you give up 4 first rounders, and Stamkos doesn't re-sign the year after. You are screwed.

Would all this require Burke, you know, to make the dreaded offer sheet?

not necassarily. we could go the same route we went to get Kessel, by doing a sign and trade.

Hello Lord Stanley
Haha, you think Colborne is more worthy of a first line role than Stamkos?

No. I didn't put the lines in a specific order. Just the Combos that would work. Stammers a shooter, as is Kessel

Hello Lord Stanley
I'm not sure i'd go with that line combination but either way it shows oodles of young talent! but with that it shows quite a few question marks as well we don't know how frattin, kadri and colborne turn out as everyday NHL'ers

I'm guessing we've move grabo and have bozak as a 3rd line center. The 2 million saved on grabo this year plus much more after next year can be used to balance out the lineup..

Another question.

IF we got Stamkos and gave up 4 first rounders.. Would you want burke to just let the young kids play and grow and develop together regardless of wins/losses. or would you still be worried about finishing poor and giving up good 1st rounders every year or go win now mentality and fill out the roster with some players to win a championship today.

I'd say let the kids play. Find out which gems for prospects we have. then go from there even with stamkos this team will need time to create and find their identity.

If we somehow managed to keep our current roster and add stamkos + UFA's i'd be estatic!

So this means Burke may already be in contact with Stamkos.

oh heavens.

Well, certainly if Burke was willing to part with 2 first round picks for Phil, I am sure he will be more than willing to part with 4 of those first rounders for Stamkos.

In comparison to the previous lineup; I propose:

Kulemin - Stamkos - Kadri
Lupul - Bozak/Colborne - Kadri
Upshall/other FA signing - Bozak/Colborne - Armstrong
Boyce - Brent - Brown

Trade Grabo for picks/prospects unless he fond chemistry with Lupul and Kessel
Trade Mac for picks/prospects or defensive upgrades.

These trades are too compensate for the loss of four first rounders. We'd probably get 2 + some prospects for both Mac and Grabo.

Hello Lord Stanley
I Hope so. It would be so nice to have a STAR player who grew up loving the Leafs want to come home and help bring the Cup to the team he loved as a child.

Yup. I think Brian would easily give 4 1st rounders for a 90-100+ point 21 year old centre..

We will see though

Wait what? Stamkos can negotiate with others teams starting tomorrow?

Why is that? and isn't that a violation on Burke's side if he tries to get in contact with him/agent?

Stamkos will never need to spend a penny in Toronto if he brought the Cup to Toronto for his LIFE.

Stamkos will be signed in Tampa...
Brad Richards will sign in New York...

I really hope Burke has some magic up his sleeve or this could be a brutal year again.

Remember that time when the Leafs just had to lose a few games and they could have drafted Stamkos? Sometimes it sort of makes you wish this team had it in them to lose on purpose, other than lose because they aren't good enough to be completely bad or good.

Apparently not. Someone posted the CBA article on the last page, so just check back there. What it basically says is Burke (and any other GM) is free to negotiate with Stamkos on June 26th, or the first tuesday after the draft-whichever comes later.

An actual deal cant be signed until the 1st, but yes, Burke is free to negotiate with Stamkos without tampering charges.

No, Dpyro is right, it's clearly stated in Exhibit 15 of the CBA.

Odd that RFA's are granted that right and not UFA's. I'd like to see the next CBA allow for something similair for UFA's, say a one/two week period where pending UFA's are formally allowed to be aproached by other teams. We all know it goes on through unofficial channels any how, might as well stop fooling ouurselves and just recognize it.

I know it's a hypothetical... But could we have just traded our firsts and whatever for 3 or 4 low round firsts next year and than get said player without giving up to much in the long run?

Maybe it's not allowed idk how any of the ins and outs works

HAHA. You're so right.

But I highly doubt he would have scored 50 with Niklas Hagman and Stajan.

I still think even if the remote possibility (highly doubt it.. fingers crossed) of us landing Stamkos don't expect more than PPG (which is damn good) because even though he's a center he needs a play maker like St. Louis something Kadri can become (not as good as MSL of course)

They have to be your own picks or you can't summit an offer sheet.

in this case

TOR 1st 12
TOR 1st 13
TOR 1st 14
TOR 1st 15

Burke could be talking to Stamkos and his agent right now...

I wish I could read minds , I am getting excited over a very fractional possibility that we might get Stamkos.
