Come to think of it, when is Maloney's contract up?
Tippett signed for 4 years in Sept. 2009, so he should be up at the end of the 12-13 season.

Maloney signed for 5 years (I think) in May 2007? So if that's right he should be done next May, right in time to move to Quebec

On the bright side, Tippett will not have a choice but to give the kids a chance to play regularly. If they manage to really step up and do well, it may change his philosophy. A combination of the big improvement of young players and a shift in coaching philosophy could expedite the growth of our core and the length of our re-re-build.
If you mean some of the players who have been in the system for a while like Brett Mac, Tikhonov, Turris, Boedker etc then I agree. But if it means a repeat of 2008 I'll have to pass, I'd rather run out retreads. At this point though in the case of some of the lower tier prospects I trust DT's judgement on them. If he's not willing to go to war with someone like Maclean then I say we just cut our losses and move him. If he's not going to earn a chance then might as well move him for a late pick or in a package.

Did we ever get the bottom of the context in which Maloney made the "no big money long term" quote?

Maloney has said on a number occasions that he doesn't feel this team should invest $6M+ in a goalie. At the same time, he also alluded to the fact those cost savings would instead be better spent on improving the offense. Whether any players actually take him up on that is another issue entirely, but at least the coaching staff and on-ice product have fostered some much-needed respect the last couple years.

I believe if we keep all our RFA's, and sign Vrbata we could get by with 3ish smaller contracts.

With RFA's kept at a conservative estimate on their dollar figure, I think we have about 4 million to go to the floor. That's easy considering I did not factor any goalie in those numbers yet.

If the NHL dictates that we are a floor team this season given the raise in cap/floor, we will be VERY bad. If they have a little more room to spend then who knows.

Maloney already stated the NHL increased his budget from last season. Leads me to believe its a percentage of the ceiling.

Is that interview in question pod casted? I don't have a pc, just a smart phone.

1 - 2.50m
2 - 4.50m

Yandle:
4yrs, 18m, 4.50avg
1 - 3.00m
2 - 4.50m
3 - 5.00m
4 - 5.50m

Turris:

As I said, he specifically references goaltenders. He acknowledges that it's been a challenge for 2 years and nothing has changed but when he answers the question he specifically answers it in regards to goaltenders. Here is the mp3 of the interview: DM Interview (starts at the half way point)

Probably something similar to what Upshall and Stempniak got after having one good season as Coyotes. A little less though, because they had past success to point to, as well.

Correct. Offer sheets are rare. Given the current situation, I doubt any GM would dare present an offer sheet to a Yote player. Who would be crazy enough to attempt to undermine Gary Bettman's attempt to sell the team by luring away some key player? These are the safest RFAs on any team in the league, IMO.

What does it take to QO Turris? His cap hit last year was something like 2.2mill. So is the qo just going off of his base salary for that year?

it's real salary not the cap#
Turris => $826,875
Boedker=>$826,875
Korpikoski=>$787,500
Yandle => $1,300,000
Tikhonov=>$826,875
MacLean =>$735,000
Pouliot => $605,000

don't know why I bother, they'll all be refused anyways

Put Vrbatta's and Prospal's money together, sign Gagne and trade a pick, Pyatt and Stemp for Nabby. Much better!

are teams really this stupid. I liken it to trying to pick of the women folk. If you come off too desperate; you going to have to buy an awful lot of drinks to overcome that fact that no one wants you.

Dear Past Self, it will not be settled before Friday. You will end up checking this forum every hour on the hour only to hear he will be traded for some Joe no one wants. By the Tuesday after the Friday, you will have given up at 8:10 am and start planning how you will defend your team against the random guy heckling you for wearing a Yandle jersey. By 2 pm on that same day, you are planning a new chant for when Yandle steps up and crushes that same guy's heart sitting next to you. If only roller coasters were this much fun.

Signed, Future Self
