Chay Genoway may provide some, but you need more than one offensive d-man. There's a good chance Scandella is up with the Wild next season.

Well Sheppard did "get it", just not in the capacity he was expected to at such a young age. He was not a liability on the ice, he was actually an above average defensive player(in Lemaire's system). Poor skating, terrible face-offs, extremely limited offense(in a large role), and the "I've been playing since I was 3" line are what have made people believe he's utterly useless, which was not completely true. Disappointing? Definitely.

I would like him better if he was Jim Sheppard, or even Jimmy. James seems so ... pretentious, like Michael instead of Mike.

So you guys bash him cause he was a little arrorgant and he had a couple run ins with the coach.
And he hasn't lived up to expectations.

Still I don't see why you guys bash him.

It started during his third season, when he was truly horridly disappointing. He went from a reasonable sophomore campaign of 5G 19A playing 4th line minutes to 2 G 4 A. His whole game took a couple steps backwards. The rest is history.

It makes a little more sense but he's not a D bag like he's made out too be.

If a UFA D-man signs here, I can see Spurgeon journeying between Houston and Minnesota. He may be able to provide more offense in the AHL.

6 points in 64 games is pretty abysmal. Especially for a first-rounder. I don't think any of us hate on him as a person; he's more of a symbol of everything that was wrong with the last regime's development schemes.

We should make a Doug Reisbrough appreciation thread, just to thank him for all that he did for and how he set this team up so well for future seasons.

I don't think it will be Spurgeon out of the lineup. He's got great hockey sense, and plays very consistently.

I hope it'd be Scandella instead.

Spurgeon should stay here IMO.

I'll say sign Shep for a long term deal for the league minimun just for the sake of these threads.

Everyone and their grandma though Bouchard was a useless, undersized guy who never shoots the puck and curls into the boards and was one hit away from a wheelchair for the rest of his life because he was gone for a year and couldn't redeem himself for a down year.

Likewise, Sheppard was a highly touted draft pick who had a disappointing year and then missed an entire year with injury, so he went from being rushed into the NHL and needing to be sent down to the minors to being a punchline on crutches.

It's more a joke than anything, but in reality Sheppard hasn't really played for the Wild in 15 months so our collective memory just gets foggier and foggier.

James has become to the Wild board what Olli Jokinen has on the main boards: more important for comedic purposes than anything he may actually do on the ice.

Spurgeon earned the trust of a long-time coach in Rick Wilson, who spent alot more time with the bigger d-men in the preseason/TC. He's pretty much a lock on our 3rd pairing IMO.

He already has his own site.

Only one problem I can see with Yeo making Sheppard "get it".

He'd have to be up with the Wild in order for Yeo to teach him that. I don't really have much of a problem with putting Shep down in Houston and seeing if he can develop into something salvageable, but I would have an issue if he was up with the club on day 1.

Well he'd have to go through waivers. I don't see any problem with letting Shep battle for a 4th line center spot in camp.

I don't mind who wins that 4C spot, as long as it's someone from Houston or Shep.

And that's a problem how? You seriously are worried about losing James Sheppard via waivers?
