Shame for such a professional player both on and off the ice but for a cash strapped franchise like us, that money should be user for a better player.

This actually makes me much more sad than losing Sully. Even though it has been speculated on quite a bit it sucks to see a guy who's done as much for this franchise as Dumont be bought with a year remaining on his contract. He didn't want to leave either. I can understand the rationale. But I contend we have misused him the past season and a half. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he went somewhere else and was productive.

His time here was up, but it's still sad to see him go.

Farewell to one of the best in Preds history. Not only a great player, but a tremendous member of the community and great person.

I'm curious to know how much Poile tried to shop him around; even a 7th rounder for him would have been better than paying him not to play. Oh well, I wish him all the best, he was a class guy on and off the ice.

Of course it was never confirmed but if you put two and two together over all the speculation since last season's trade deadline you can come to the safe assumption Dumont wasn't exactly willing to waive his NTC.

Unsurprising. Great person off the ice but on the ice an absolute husk after Burrows cheapshotted him.

no team was going to give us anything for him at $4mil, plus he has the MNC.

this is a win-win.

we save 1.3 million, JP can now try to make a deal for a much lower salary at a destination he would be willing to go to.

**** Burrows, i hope he never even sniffs a Cup again..

edit: you also almost have to believe that buying out dumont means poile is fairly confident he wont be losing all our RFAs

An elbow straight to the head. Good thing they're cutting down on all those head shots...

Very true, it just doesn't make much sense to me why he wouldn't waive it in this situation depending on whatever potential team was willing to make a deal for him. He'd have the final say in wherever he went, but unless he was being kept completely in the dark he must have figured a buyout could be a strong possibility this offseason with the way things were going... and at that point a NTC wouldn't even matter. But I guess it's free money for him now, can't say I would turn that down either...

I thought so too, but when guys like Kopecky are getting signed for $3mil it doesn't make Dumont's contract look so bad.

Not that ours are saints or better, but even more amusing was the announcers.

The ideal situation (other than if Burrows wasn't spawned by Satan in the first place and JP would therefore been more likely to perform up to his contract) would have been a trade for anything, but of course Poile gave him the NMC so that's what we got stuck with. I was fine with the contract at the time with the exception of the NMC which ultimately nixed getting any future return in JP.

Nonetheless, when JP was healthy and fit the structure of the team, I really enjoyed his time in Nashville...his off-ice contributions obviously "top shelf" as well.

Between Sully and JP, I've got to think that JP has the best chance of landing on his feet with another team, and if it's the right system and situation, no doubt he'll be able to be a fairly significant contributor for another couple of years and at a much better price.

Not very surprising. I was more surprised when a few preds fans were saying they thought he wouldn't be bought out. That didn't make much sense to me.

I wonder if Dumont is just going to retire and raise his kids. Pure guess. But otherwise he would've waived his clause for the right teams. This way he gets a pension while he makes the transition.

Thanks for being a team player J.P. Sure enjoyed watching you play. You are a class guy, and a heck of a player. Good luck! A Predator forever in my mind.

I thought the Robidas hit was the next season at the very beginning of the season.

It was the next season. The Burrows hit was Dec of 2008 and the Robidas hit was October of 2009.

Arnott, Sullivan, and Dumont will all go to St Louis next year, and will destroy the Predators

Best of luck to J.P and his family. Great guy on and off the ice. Great leader. Provided an outstanding example to the young guys. You play the role asked of you. You don't whine because you think you're better than your role.

Nashville loves you, J.P. I hope once your playing days are over you come back to settle down in these parts.

I will miss hearing J. P. Duuuuuuumont at our games. Hope his family remains in Nashville and that he returns after his playing days are over. One of my favorite players. It's sad, but he was really never the same after the Burrows hit. The others hits just made it worse.
