i'm confused at the kennedy move, that has been one of the pens best and most consistent lines for the past 2-3 years.

unless sherro already has a deal in place for kennedy and just didn't want to waste the paper work for the offer sheet, then this just baffles me, especially if talbot actually reaches free agency.

would be basically throwing away one of the best if not the best checking lines in the nhl away for nothing. and if people thought that staal wasn't being utilized right, or anything like that then this will be even worse.

why? schaus is 24, will be turning 25 very soon. and he hasn't even put up 20 points in a full season yet in the ahl.

by the looks of things from the stats point of view, he will be nothing more then ahl fodder. never mind, just noticed he was a D.

but still my question still stands why? you would think at the age of 24-25, if there was anything there nhl worthy he would have a lil bit of hype around him.

Davis was pretty much the perfect depth guy for the AHL; too bad.

Schaus is a shocker. Sharks have a lot of D-men in the pool, but I thought the guy had NHL potential.

Even though most people think the opposite, not all d-men need to put up points to be considered good defensemen.

Also, even if Schaus spends his entire career in the AHL, he's still the type of player that's needed to have on those AHL teams.

they can sign a contract with worcester then. its not likely anyone else will poach him, i think. im guessing that dw didn't want to hit the 50 max contracts.

He played one season in the AHL and looked to me like he still had some room for growth in his abilities.

Could contract count play into it? I will note for others that he is another righty.

That's got to be part of it, although he qualified McLaren...of the two I'd rather have Schaus. I guess DW would rather have a McLaren.

yeah after i hit submit i noticed he was a defensemen, hence the edit. but still, i haven't even heard 1 word about him any one's thinking of a roster and players that might make a push for the nhl team.

whys that though? I mean schaus has never seen the nhl, while mclaren gets punted up every so often. schaus seems like a solid ahl player who might never see the big leauges - better to just give him an ahl contract rt?

Schaus has played one season of pro hockey, and McLaren was a total waste of a roster spot here most of this season (a fighter that doesn't fight is worthless)...I think right now there's far more upside on Schaus than McLaren. I think DW may be hoping McLaren finds the groove he had in 09-10.

If White is re-signed, throw your fantasy team out the window, because there's no money left. Here's your roster:

Dany Heatley ($7,500,000) Joe Thornton ($7,000,000) Patrick Marleau ($6,900,000)
Logan Couture ($1,241,667) Joe Pavelski ($4,000,000) Ryane Clowe ($3,625,000)
Torrey Mitchell ($1,366,667) Kyle Wellwood ($1,000,000) Jamie McGinn ($750,000)
Ben Eager ($1,000,000) Andrew Desjardins ($550,000) Benn Ferriero ($750,000)
Frazer McLaren ($605,000)
DEFENSEMEN (7)
Douglas Murray ($2,500,000) Dan Boyle ($6,666,667)
Jason Demers ($1,250,000) Brent Burns ($3,550,000)
Marc-Edouard Vlasic ($3,100,000) Ian White ($3,250,000)
Justin Braun ($875,000)
GOALTENDERS (2)
Antti Niemi ($3,800,000)
Antero Niittymaki ($2,000,000)
SUMMARY (totals compiled without the bonus cushion)
ROSTER SIZE 22
SALARY CAP $64,300,000
CAP PAYROLL $63,280,001
BONUSES $587,500
CAP SPACE $1,019,999

On the third line, Mitchy's got wheels, Welly's got hands and Ginner can bang. Pavs needs to play top 6 and Nitty needs to backup 20-25 games with a good chance of winning them.

If Campbell's contract can be moved there is no reason to think that Heater's can't be either. If DW could send Danny boy off , take that 7.5mil and go after Cole,Leino, and Ward. the UFA class this year is much better than 2012 class, atleast regarding the forward/center position. Obviously moving Heater would be a tough sell but it is something DW should be actively pursuing. Oh what a lineup we could field w/o that contract....

I think they're going to make a huge offer to Vokoun. If they do that and he signs, they have no need for Nitty. I don't think they'd trade Nitty within the division. I still think either Florida or Columbus makes the most sense for a Nitty trade.

I have no idea how White would work cap-wise. but.....

Murray - Boyle
Burns - White
Vlasic - Demers

Love it.

How is Leino for speed? How about Ward?

Ward isn't slow, but he's not too fast either. I feel Leino could be an effective F1 for the first or second line though.

Ratto on Chronicle Live (just now). Talking about Setoguchi "sign/trade" and acquisition of Burns.

Feels the Sharks need one more (significant) move before he'd consider them cup contenders. Thinks they'll stop short of moving Clowe or Pavelski to get that deal done.

Ah, the ever pessimistic Ray.

They are both good on speed, but I wouldn't count on Leino to chase down and battle for pucks. He's the type who gets it from a linemate and holds it for someone to get open. He does that very well.

Leino 35 hits in 81 games
Ward 67 hits in 80 games

so ward does sound like the better option then, despite the lieno-mania going on.

ward would be awesome, and he's playoff money. but it looks like he wants to get paid, so doubt we sign him.

I agree. I wouldn't mind Ward, but I'd prefer one of Cole/Leino and Talbot.

Well, my feeling on White is dieing down looking at the Sharks front page. Poll on who Burns will be paired with, with White an omission.
