Apparently the deal is illegal. It's currently being challenged. Doesn't sound like it will survive the challenge.

I haven't really been following the situation closely. I'll look for a resource that lays all of this out. I am definitely skeptical about the way this is playing out. Though, I am certain that the NHL doesn't mind treading water in a market where somebody is willing to throw in tens of millions of dollars in return for ZERO equity in the operation.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for this "mystery parties" identity to surface. If I recall corectly Hulsizer's name was out in a week or two when he was a previous "mystery party". Any of the local Yotes fans on here with any guesses? The longer the mystery lingers the poorer the season ticket sales will be if there is indeed a link between ownership and ticket sales.

Population and "hockey market" means little if they aren't able to build a place for the team to play.

Whelp.... it's probably going to be a long, sad year for Coyotes fans. Without Hulsizer, there's no real notable buyer left on the market that would be interested in keeping the team in Arizona. And no, Reinsdorf is not an interested buyer. He's looked at the books several times, and has fled each time when he looked at the financial picture of the team.

I don't see Glendale and the NHL being able to do anything to sweeten the deal any more to get interested buyers with the threat of litigation hanging around their necks from the Goldwater Institute, and the status quo obviously isn't enough to satiate Goldwater's interest or a potential buyers' needs to lose debt before purchasing the team.

And this will likely result in a drop in attendance, as we'll have yet another year where a number of Yotes fans figure that losing the team is a sure thing once again, not doing any favors to the attractiveness of the market.

Three markets stand out as potentially landing the team, but they all require something to happen first.
Mod: deleted.

Kansas City, MO and St. Louis, MO are both border cities. You're leaving off hundreds of thousands of people (nearly 1.6 million) on the West side of Kansas City and East side of St. Louis.

Not to mention you have cities that are 100 miles or less that include another 750,000+ people.

Don't judge a state by it's cover

Just saying.

And if the team went to Houston, it would clearly be a Western team, and a NATURAL RIVAL of Dallas.

The NHL, just like any other professional sports league, needs intense local rivalries. As it stands now, the Stars are practically all by their lonesome.

We'll change that.

Our 18,000 seat arena awaits.

Exactly! If all the parties involved in QC can't see that the Coyotes are there on a silver platter waiting for them, then they must be blind. Bettman can't out and out say they are coming but he can tell Peladeau and LaBoom to do the math.

An arena means little if there's no owners interested in moving a franchise there or current owners unwilling to look. See Atlanta.

NHL needs to get its ass in gear and convince Les to take on a Houston franchise. Two teams in Texas makes too much sense. By the time the Quebec Arena is near completion the cap might be high enough and the recession becoming more and more a problem of years ago that they could expand there and somewhere else. With a 16/14 or 8/7:8/7 division style it seems like the direction they'd be heading in anyway.

Wow. You know what's shocking? With all the links and quotes and information in there, these HF threads are probably the most comprehensive resource on the Coyotes situation anywhere.

Sooooo not only is Phoenix done, but Hulsizer should be, too. He has "problem owner" written all over -- he can't even afford to buy a team; he is asking pretty much to indefinitely mortgage one. The NHL would do well to relocate or even contract before allowing the league to fill up with owners like that.

I think the NHL will want to see a owner in Dallas first before they start looking at Houston. IMO Houston can have the Panthers when their owners finally flake out. If Bettman means what he says than QC is a no-brainer to get a team next.

Hulsizer is a real opportunist and this opportunity just died. I wonder if among many things it has anything to due with the words "securities fraud" now being mentioned by GWI. I am sure Hulsizer and Peak6 want to distance themselves from any situation which could hinder his already successful business ventures. At least Hulsizer got to skate with the team all IEH got was to hang out in the dressing room.

Right, for the book the Winnipeg Volume now has closure

On to QC probably for the next volume.

I really wish I could say I was surprised, but I'm not. JR? I think at this point media throws his name around to show some sort of possible hope-but I really don't think JR does any deal that doesn't include some sort of generous out/relocation/whathaveyou clause, and he'd want the same sweetheart type deal that was offered Hulz I would think.

And this is not the news the organization wanted-will probably put even more of a chill on season ticket and corporate sponsorship I would think. This plus the Westgate foreclosure-individually these would be a tough spots anyway, but the fact that Yotes and Westgate are hand in hand, what a vicious circle....

And as an earlier poster suggested, Scruggs and CoG right now are probably thinking the popular meme "What? What is this, I don't even...."

I have to wonder if there's serious pressure from the NHL BoG after this news to say to Bettman "forget the 25 mil per year, we want out after this season"

Wow....the strange trip keeps getting stranger.

What a circus. How can the NHL talk realignment when they dont even know where the team they own will be located next year?
