Way more than I thought they'd give him. I guess this means they're going to be making serious moves.

Would be pissed if this means they skimp on D rather than move around some F's, though.

The cap hit might be $.5M-$.75M too high, but it'll be fine in a few years as the cap continues to climb. (Obviously) I value him more than most on this board, and think the team would have had to acquire 2-3 players to replace what he does.

I share this opinion as well. Also think we are not done, not sure the next potential move will have an impact in the realm that Dash is stating but I do foresee a move or 2.

Center?

Mind as well play him there. And prove his worth to us.

Oh well. so much for my visions of change starting with at least one core guy moved out. Nothing against Brooks.

Call it an overpayment, but I'm fine with it. Very happy to have him here for a while

If there's a core guy to move...he's one of the last ones I start with.

I guess my question to you would be, if you had to pick a 'core' player to be moved .... wouldn't he be closer to the bottom of that list?

I wholeheartedly agree that changes need to be made, but Brooks isn't really the problem. I am glad he's sticking around.

He's now most assuredly the caps 2nd line lw for the future. Unless cap and our budget continues to rise we cannot support this contract as semin's IMHO.

But at least he shouldn't be untradable in the future.

I feel this way and I am starting to believe that there are going to be trades now. This makes the Brouwer trade a big win now, not just an improvement, imo.

I'm not saying his numbers haven't earned him that contract but the deal is for about 50% more than the player is actually worth. He should send Semin a thank you card for the extra $1.5 mil per...

You seriously think Brooks Laich is a $3M player with a $64M cap ceiling? Come on.

bingo. if the caps want to change the "culture," there are at least 10 guys that need to go before laich. the contract is fine. glad to have him back.

Wholeheartedly agree here. Brouwer looks a lot better if he's going to try to be a grittier Fehr rather than a poor-man's Laich in terms of role on this team.

I'd stick him at 3C as a shutdown guy and use him heavily in special teams situations. If Brouwer plays his game at 2LW he can do a better job of opening up time & space for that line.

It's roughly a Ryan Malone type deal...less when adjusting for the cap rise. Curious whether there's a NTC included. I'm guessing given GMGM's recent history with such things that there isn't.
