Tyler Kennedy

The Penguins have not given a qualifying offer to RW Tyler Kennedy. This means if they can't reach an agreement on a contract (it is doubtful they will if he wasn't qualified) then he could be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

One of the things on my wishlist would be a 3rd line RW who can play on the penalty kill but also step into a top 6 role occasionally if needed. I am not sure how good Kennedy is defensively, but otherwise he seems to fit the bill.

What are your thoughts on offering a contract to Kennedy?

I posted yesterday that it is believed he and Jagr are expected to be signed by the Pens by Friday. Just working out final details. I guess it could fall through, but it doesn't sound like it.

he could be just a player that is being carried defensively by one of the best in the league defensively, or he is good at a defensive game (but not great).

he is one of my wishes for this summer, but i have my doubts that he would do anything of significance away from staal and talbot. that line has really good chemistry and it is what makes it one of the best shut down lines in the league.

If they were planning to sign him wouldn't they have qualified him?

He's not a great PK'er. He's a 15-25 goal guy, brings energy and grit. I would love to see him on the 3rd line here next year for sure.

I really know nothing about him. He's not good enough offensively to crack the Pens to p 6 (given their wingers that's pretty sad) so he can't be much of a scorer.

to be honestly fair, he hasn't had that much of an opportunity to. he came up to the pens and clicked right away with staal and talbot and well for those 3 players the rest is history.

even when crosby and malkin were hurt this year, they tried to split the 3 up, and give them all top 6 duties but the team went to the crapper for that experiment and once those 3 went back together the team started to play extremely well again (when you stop the pucks from going in is some times more important then putting them in yourselves).

I think Kennedy would be an excellent add for San Jose. When given the opportunity to play with better payers and see more ice time (due to injuries) this season he rose to the occasion and led the team in scoring down the stretch. If they can get him under contract for 2.25-2.5 per year, its a great deal and makes the Burns deal even better imo.

he actually didn't play with better players, he got put back onto the same line as he normally is when crosby and malkin are in the line up. after the experiment of staal and neal went horribly wrong.

he did start playing more minutes, and better minutes. but he still had the same line mates.

Kennedy would be good for our 3rd line, but I don't see it happening to be honest. First I think the Pen's will sign him, second I think he's going to want more than he worth, and 3rd he's not a PK specialist which I am sure is what DW is going to be looking for.

I think a lot of teams would go after him just for the goals he can score, he has a good game that fits our style.

I work with a biased Pens fans who said he was good on the PK. I was just wondering if that was true.

I know he's old an over the hill, but if there are no PK specialists out there maybe Madden on a one year deal would work? As we've all seen, there are slim pickings this year, and Madden seems like an over-the-hill type of player who could be useful in a limited capacity.

Tyler Kennedy doesn't kill penalties - at all.

Had a total of 3 minutes of SH time on ice last year.

Haha, so he wasn't lying when he called him biased.

Really? Wow, I was kind of basing it off his defensive play which is marginal and the little bit of pen's games i've seen. i guess i need to watch more Pen's games heh.

I think Kennedy's price will come in too rich for the Sharks. Not a bad coup if they can get him without hurting next year's cap.

@Bakes_Jamie13: RT “@RealKyper: #Leafs #Blackhawks #Sharks all remain interested in #Penguins Talbot. 2M per season over 4 years is the ball park for him."

Has anyone else heard about this? ive heard worse deals. not bad imo
