Send a message via MSN to WeThreeKings
Upshall or Cole
Hejda
Konopka.

Cole would play in top 6. Upshall would play top 9.

With the UFA forwards that are left, I dont think there are any that I want to spend alot of money on for a long term contract. Only guy who at least used to have what we need ie big, physical player with scoring ability ie power forward, is Eric Cole, but I dont know if hes still that player. If he is it would be interesting because we might then have 3 lines we could roll for offence , otherwise why would you be paying AK 3.25m to be on the 3rd line. Wow, 2 power forwards in our top 6. Anyway,a couple of guys I wonder about are Anthony Stewart and Raffi Torres for our bottom 6. Somebody wrote Stewart had character issues and if thats the case then no. Otherwise, you have 2 big physical players who can chip in and who you can probably sign for 2-3 years without breaking the bank. There is also potential upside offensively with these 2 , maybe could earn some top 6 minutes. Not sure how they are defensively, a must for JM. Comments welcome.

We have 13.9M$ in cap space right now if Hamrlik does not sign by July 1st.

Say we sign Gorges to 2.5-3M$, White to 700K$ and Auld 1M$ that would leave us with 9.2 to 9.7M$ in cap for July 1st.

Leave 1.5M$ for a cushion, leaves us with 7.7 to 8.2M$ to spend on a depth D and a top 6-9 forward.

We also need a backup goalie.

With Price and Subban RFAs next year, I highly doubt Montréal goes out and makes a big splash.

Probably re-sign White, Gorges and Auld (or JS Giguere)

Then get 1-2 bottom 6 forwards. Maybe re-sign Halpern, or get Kenopka for the faceoffs and some toughness (Hah, doubt it) and maybe Sjostrom to replace Pyatt...

They'll probably sign Sullivan to a 1 year deal.

I think we need more than a depth dman, we have depth, we need a top 3 guy. Spacek and Gill are 36 and 37 years old, Weber and Yemelin cannot be relied upon yet for heavy minutes and important situations. Markov and Subban are both top guys that can play in all situations, and Gorges is a #4/5 defensive dman. Both Markov and Gorges are coming off missed seasons due to injury. The Habs need a top guy to keep everyone in proper order, 1 - 6, and not have players in situations they are not able to handle. Will also be valuable to have so they can ease Markov back through the beginning of the season to get him back to game shape.

I think PG will make him an offer. We have a lot of money to spend on a forward or 2 on friday.

Not likely. Might get around 4 mill. I don't want Montréal to pay that for him.

The way it's shaping up right now, there will be a lot of RFAs.

Stamkos, Doughty, Schenn, Callahan, and others.

The UFA crop sucks so much that players will be overpaid.

Yeah I definately wasn't aware of that so... you can scratch Leino I wouldn't be willing to overpay for this guy. And on second thought he's not exactly what we need right now.

Just thought of something else here, wouldn't one of Columbus or LA be ready to part ways with one of their extra top 6 guys since the Carter/Richards trades?

LA pretty much has 3 top 6 right wingers in Brown,Penner and Justin Williams

And Columbus now has 3 top 6 centers atm in Carter,Umberger and Vermette.

Adding one of Umberger, Vermette or Williams in our top 6 would answer some needs on offence (plus they all have a reasonable contract)

LA and Columbus are in/ trying to get into win now situations so they're not about to trade away any of those players unless it improves their team.

Leino's counting stats were bloated by soft assignments and starting in the offensive zone all the time. Somebody is going to overpay him and regret it. Hopefully it will not be PG.

The only chip we had left just got traded for scraps.

Sign and trade Wiz for of them would of been my plan.

Top 25 NHL UFA 2011

DISCLAIMER: This blog is in no way, shape or form to bash the Canadiens' organization, Habs' fans or NHL fans in general. It is in no way the God spoken truth, and there is absolutely nothing to read between the lines. If you can't take the heat, stay out of the thread not to give the respected moderators a reason to play locksmiths. Thank you.

Better hurry up as players are getting signed as I’m writing this blog! Here’s a totally non-scientific list of the NHL players I’d qualify as the NHL’s Unrestricted Free Agents who will be getting the most demand comes July 1st if they’re not signed before then.

In consideration was production, age, salary and intangibles such as toughness and other factors they bring to a team. Some have dropped drastically in the last few months, other have risen with their playoffs’ performances.

Enjoy!

Konopka #5?

I realize the pool is shallow, but he's a fourth liner on one of the league's worst clubs. No way he gets more interest than, say, Jussi Jokinen, or Sean Bergenheim.

Andy Greene
Zenon Konopka
Matt Gilroy
Bobby Butler
Mike Rupp
Sean Bergenheim
Cedrick Desjardins(cheap backup?)
Anthony Stewart
Steve Staios
Mathieu Garon
Brad Richards
Jonathan Ericsson
Scottie Upshall
Joel Ward
Raffi Torres
Tomas Fleishmann
Anton Babchuk
Cory Stillman
Tyler Kennedy

For the right price Leino and Konopka would be perfect. If Akost doesnt get it done this year we will need a top 6 winger.

Leino is not a top-6 winger, and Konopka certainly isn't.

But he's fantastic at the sideshows after the whistle that have a magical and mystical connection to winning that goes beyond goals scored for and against.

Konopka and Rupp... Rupp-Konopka-White/Moen is a 4th line that is so intimidating it would cause other teams to have to make adjustments whenever they are on the ice. Face offs killed us in the P.O.'S and Konopka would really help with that! Then sign Stewart to play with Eller and White or Moen.
