Stamkos worth (4) Picks or a trade ? Pls Mr. Holland

The blogs are rampant today suggesting that Stevie Stamkos is on his way out of TB. Wouldn't he look good in Red and White! Should Holland put forward an offer sheet and forfeit his next four first round picks or engineer a trade moving a package over to Stevie Y. How about a package including Franzen, Filppula and Hudler. What do you think?

I think neither of those things are going to happen. And while Stamkos is great, I think signing him to an 8-8.5m/yr contract would be a bad move.

Even given the cap's continued rise? It's very intriguing to think of getting Stamkos (or Weber) at the cost of 4 lower-half 1st round picks.

This sounds like the Flyers and Leafs fans in fantasy land.

Of course I, the Red Wings and every other team would love to have Stamkos, but Yzerman will match ANY offer.

Not to mention Holland don't do offer sheets and especially won't to Stevie.

To lure Stamkos away, Detroit would have to offer him a huge salary. Each year, similarly productive and already proven free agents (this year it's B. Richards) could be signed for equal/lower salaries without giving up assets. The Red Wings should not rely on drafting upper-round legends like Zetterberg, Datsyuk or Lidström.

Stamkos is not good enough to make Holland throw an offer sheet his way. That would be monumentally stupid thing to do.

I'm sure Yzerman is doing everything he can to get rid of that bum Stamkos.

No one on this team will make more than Datsyuk and Zetterberg.

If he wants a 5 year 60 million contract, no problem. But he's not getting 8 or above from the Wings.

I might have agreed with that if the cap wasn't projected to continue to rise. I don't think he's a better player than Datsyuk or Zetterberg, but because of his age and goal scoring ability, I think one can justify 8+ million a season for Stamkos. If the Wings signed him for 5 (or so) years at 8-9m, I'd be pretty stoked.

Other than maybe Shea Weber, I can't think of another player I would want more on the Red Wings.

Holland wont do that to Yzerman.

Then again, I cant think of a year where the Wings have had this much space since the cap was implemented.

But their need is on D. Stamkos does not help that.
