Cam Barker put on waivers

I would love for Detroit to pick up this guy, sounds like a cheaper alternative to any other FA defensemen. He is young, and big, and a good player. What do you guys think?

$3m+ for 5 points last year. I'd rather not. Maybe if he comes in for the minimum and they roll the dice that he can get back to that 40 point level he had in 08-09. But for $3 mil, no.

I think he might be worth taking a chance on.
His contract is a bit inflated but it's only for one more year and I feel he could thrive under Babcock.

He simply didn't fit in the defense first Minnesota system.
Pair him up with Lidstrom and let him learn for a year.

If he gets bought out by the Wild, he would become a UFA, and Im assuming could be had for cheap. He has a lot of potential, being a #3 overall pick, a 40 pt season in 68 games followed by a 9pt playoff in 17 games, and has size (6'3 215 lbs), and is young (25). His point totals being low recently is because he was hurt.

The pick behind Ovechkin and Malkin back in 04... i can't grasp this:

2010-11 Minnesota NHL 52 1 4 5
2008-09 Chicago NHL 68 6 34 40

Yeah 16 less games played but still a huge difference... minnesota is a more defensive team too...but it's mind boggling.

He was 6th on Minnesota for defenseman in 10-11 in average time on ice, and even strenth ice time on ice. He played on the bottom pair, and battled injuries, he didn't ever seem to fit into Minnesota's system.
