I thought he was great at the U-18 tournament.

He got lots of ice time and was a real horse out there. Had an iron lung. He took on all comers.

Very solid game in all three zones.

Iivonen - Koskinen
+Auvitu, Jaatinen

Since you can only dress 6 dmen in SM-liiga I don't think Määttä would have played hardly at all, barring some injuries.
It's quite different to list what fans think about the players than what the coaching staff were thinking. I know for a fact the Määttä was offered a spot in JYP's playing roster. I had him in second pairing in the my desktop lines (which I haven't posted yet in Jatkoaika.com forum).

Määttä goes to OHL for season 11-12. Link below in Finnish.

He was offered a roster spot in JYP, but his dream is to play in Canada (CHL assumingly). Good luck to Olli!

Reports out of London are that Määttä has looked very good in training camp and in the exhibition games. For those who were concerned about his playing time in London having no league to fall back on if he struggles, I wouldn't worry too much about that. Olli is going to get every opportunity in London to succeed while learning from Tinordi and Scott Harrington.

It will certainly take some time for him to adjust to the NA game but scouts feel he is a talent that shouldn't take too long. I look forward to seeing how he plays out of London. It's a good situation.

He was certainly visible in a positive way in the preseason game that I watched on Friday. He was playing second pairing minutes and it was clear that Sarnia was focusing attention on him. He dealt with the opposition well for the most part, although Yakupov made him look bad on one play where he was caught out of position.

He got better as the game progressed so he may have been a bit nervous at the start. From what I saw, it didn't look like playing on the smaller ice would be too large of an adjustment for him.

I don't want to judge to much from a pre-season game, but he left me feeling optimistic.

Maatta got decked a few times in his first preseason game but I think that has to do with the fact that the ice 15 feet more narrow and he is not used to this League yet. I liked his skills and his ability to control the puck. He's not the fastest but he's a good enough skater and it will likely improve overtime. Decent size and should be a great addition to the Knights' blueline for the next 2-3 seasons.

Määttä already in his first fight, possibly first one in his career (there isn't much fighting in Finnish junior hockey);

Love this kid. He's a player teams love having... a player's player. Really enjoyed watching him at the last U-18 tourney.

When do you who have seen him play think he'll make the jump to NHL? How NHL-ready does he look? 1-2 seasons?

He seems to concentrate in defensive end first. And I think it is quite wise. If you watch Knights games you'll notice he makes quick solid desicions, not the flashy offensive play. That he hasn't been in the scoreboard yet in three games, I wouldn't be too worried. He'll be a a good PMD after a couple of months of learning of the small rink.

Vladislav Namestnikov only has 2 points. Not sure how he doesn't have more than this from those 8 goal games.

Give it some time, Maatta will get his points.

Namestnikov undressed 3 players in a rush up the ice last night then when he didn't score you could tell how frustrated he was. He's looking good just not finishing.

The Knights have Harrington and more specifically Worrad to take care of the offensive side of things. I'd be ecstatic if he played excellent defence this year and then improved his offense next year, assuming of course he doesn't make the NHL.

I'm happy that for once there's a high-profile Finn, who's entering his draft year, in CHL.

Maata looked right at home on London's 1st PP unit. His slapper needs work (it's lacking in both strength and accuracy), but he has a nice, low, accurate, redirectable wrister from the slot. His passing was very impressive last night, his mobility was generally good (he had one glaring gaffe where his feet got crossed up and he fell to the ice giving Plymouth a clean breakaway) and his first pass is crisp and accurate.

I came away very impressed with him. I like him better than I liked Larsson last year, but that's not saying much.

Has Worrad been a healthy scratch this past weekend or was he sick/injured?

But yeah, Maatta's the real deal. Two way game is what he's all about.
