I liked Montador, but damn, that's a decent buck. If that's the going rate, I feel it could prove a lot harder to replace Sutton with a cheaper version (< $1.3 mio) as the no.6 defenseman. On the other hand, if we do find such a bargain, it would make Sutton's contract probably easier to sell to other GMs that strike out due to the prices on other guys.

I hope Murph has something in mind because it seems like Teemu is 50/50 or 60/40 coming back. Fingers crossed.

Worry about the 3rd line.

Yeah, I guess I jinx everything.

*views draft thread*

Too bad that we definitely aren't going to get Stamkos!

I've always liked him too, but he really doesn't bring much to a team beyond scoring, and honestly I think at 40 points he's not worth putting up with his deficiencies. At 50 or 60 points sure, but I wouldn't be banking on that at this stage of his career, and certainly not in a 3rd line role with limited PP time.

He's on a clear downward trend, and generally 33 year olds on a downward trend don't suddenly play like they did when they were 27 again. That's a bad bet to take on a tight budget unless we're talking DIRT cheap. But every dollar's going to count with this team if we hope to fix the 3rd line.

I just get the feeling that no matter who we hope for, we won't be getting that player.

I'm hoping Murray stays the hell away from this FA class with the contracts that are being handed out and just waits to poach players from teams in cap trouble.

Honestly, these terms are just insane.

Not every player is going to be like that. Jussi Jokinen's deal was exactly what I had in mind for Anaheim to do if they should target him.

Hamhuis is a bad example. He's overhyped.

Just don't target a guy like Richards.

Anyone think we should try putting in an offer sheet on Drew Doughty? I heard a good explanation on why that could be a good idea on Anaheim Calling.

The good news is that there are a lot of 3rd and 4th liners on the UFA market, and they are the players that Murray is looking at. Shouldn't have to overpay for them.

If the Ducks were desperate for a 2nd liner or a top 4 d-man I'd be worried about overpayment.

They have made some really nice moves. I agree if they get Richards him and Roy is a great 1-2 punch at center. Would love for them to go far in the playoffs.

Buffalo is far from a favorite. We had more pieces (Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan, Selanne, Hiller, Visnovsky, Fowler, Lydman, Koivu) and we still didn't make it past the first round.

Didn't quite have Hiller, which was a main piece. The Sabres would have a lot more depth than us, though. With Richards, they would definitely among the ~3 top contenders in the East.

Sabres' core is (Richards maybe), Roy, Vanek, Miller, Pominville, Myers, Ehrhoff.... and with guys like Gaustad, etc. for depth, they could be a pretty good team.

I'm sorry but they will have a good team and if they add Richards they will be making some noise in the playoffs.

Hm I thought we might see one of Ruutu or Winchester. Bottom 6 is definitely going to be looking different.
