I liked Montador, but damn, that's a decent buck. If that's the going rate, I feel it could prove a lot harder to replace Sutton with a cheaper version (< $1.3 mio) as the no.6 defenseman. On the other hand, if we do find such a bargain, it would make Sutton's contract probably easier to sell to other GMs that strike out due to the prices on other guys.
I've always been a Dumont fan, so maybe that plays into my belief that last year was more of an aberration than what is to come for JP. I still think he's good for 40-60pts if he's health, especially away from Nashville's system.
I've always liked him too, but he really doesn't bring much to a team beyond scoring, and honestly I think at 40 points he's not worth putting up with his deficiencies. At 50 or 60 points sure, but I wouldn't be banking on that at this stage of his career, and certainly not in a 3rd line role with limited PP time.
He's on a clear downward trend, and generally 33 year olds on a downward trend don't suddenly play like they did when they were 27 again. That's a bad bet to take on a tight budget unless we're talking DIRT cheap. But every dollar's going to count with this team if we hope to fix the 3rd line.
