We've got another player that plays left side as well in Stuart, and then 2 other lefty shots in Kindl and Ericsson (assuming Ericsson re-signs). Our lack is very much on the right side, as I state above.

The Wings will be prioritizing guys that naturally play the right side. That doesn't mean they won't be simultaneously pursuing Kabs, but if they've got to pick between, say, Wiz and Kaberle, they're going to go with Wiz. Ehrhoff or Kaberle, Ehrhoff. Wiz or Ehrhoff, Wiz.

Very ideally, we get 2 of Ehrhoff, Wiz, Kaberle. Don't see it happening, but it's ideal. There are other pieces outside of the ideal that can be added.
Did forget that Kaberle plays on the left side, my bad, so thanks for pointing that out. With Rafalski gone, Detroit needs a guy to play on the right. Ehrhoff and Wisniewski both fit.

2 Guys I feel the Canucks will take a strong look at are Tomas Fleishmann and Steve Montador

Also I feel Salo,Higgins will re-sign and doubt Torres will he'd have to play 4th line and don't think he would

Yea. Like I said, that doesn't exclude Kaberle it all, it just doesn't make him numero uno in priority. He would make an excellent 2nd addition to another signing, an an awesome back end for Detroit. Imagine something like:

Lidstrom - Kaberle
Kronwall - Wiz/Ehrhoff
Stuart - Ericsson/Kindl

We have over $16m in cap space. We can easily address our current small holes, add those 2 guys for over $5m/yr a piece and still have room for a top 6/top 9 forward. Eesh.

It does have Kaberle playing out of position, but then again, you could play him where Stuart is there and have Stuart play out of position (which he does better than most), such as:

Kronwall - Ehrhoff/Wiz
Lidstrom - Ericsson/Kindl
Kaberle - Stuart

Or such.

However, the importance of the Kab signing would be more apparent next season assuming Lidstrom retires. You then have:

Kronwall - Ehrhoff/Wiz
Kaberle - Smith
Stuart - Ericsson/Kindl

As the backbone. He fits very, very well next year if there's an assumption Nick is gone.

For people who say Tomas Fleischmann stays in Colorado, there is no way, he hasn't even been talked to as of right now.

Just helping predictors

Hey guys/girls Ehrhoff is a Left D man we got in trouble when we played him or Edler on the right as they're both Left guys

Regarding the comment about the Wings not being able to fit 2 of Wiz, Ehrhoff, Kaberle, here's a projectable roster:

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m)
Johan Franzen ($3.954m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m)
Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m)
Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Patrick Eaves ($0.900m)
Cory Emmerton ($0.533m)

DEFENSEMEN
Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / James Wisniewski ($5.000m)
Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Tomas Kaberle ($5.000m)
Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($2.100m)
Jakub Kindl ($0.883m)

GOALTENDERS
Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Josh Harding ($.900m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,792,044; BONUSES: $0
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $1,307,956

You can add a 14th forward or 8th d-man @ 600k or so, still 700k left. Takes into account a very generous raise for Ericsson at 2.1m/yr, or we can simply replace him with someone cheaper and free up cap room for a solid forward and another cheap d-man. Has Wiz and Kaberle at 5m each. Think they can command more? The spare salary room is quite available.

The Wings are in a very good cap position to get what they want this FA provided there's interest from the UFAs re: playing in Detroit.

(Note: I used Harding as the Wings backup because the OP suggested it, that seemed reasonable, and I was feeling lazy. Toss in another name as necessary/applicable).

wow, you sure are predicting the Kings to be silent,

last year i was hoping they would sign R. Torres, and i wish they would do so this summer, but i don't have high hopes,

i'd also like to see the kings go after arron asham,

Anyone know anything on Nylander. Last I heard he was injured real bad during the season. Anyone think he will get signed by someone or his career over?

I didn't even put him on the list because I'm assuming he'll retire. Age 38, hasn't played in the league for 2 years now, and had a serious injury while playing in Rochester this past year. He had spinal fusion surgery in October and I'm not sure what he's been doing since.

So, the consensus thus far is that Josh Harding is the Detroit back-up next year? I actually like. I was pulling for Turco, but...

What's with all the Joel Ward and Brendan Morrison to the Devils predictions? They don't need another winger, and Morrison is useless.

O Brien back in Vancouver will NEVER happen as long as AV is coaching, too much bad blood after he left. Not a good guy to have around a team that wants to win either imo

How exactly is Morrison useless? He had a solid season on a cheap contract.

the 3 guys I predict will be Leafs are Ville Leino Max Talbot and one of Larose or Torres thus completing the 3rd line.

Larose/Torres-Talbot-Armstrong

I know I kinda cheated a little but saying or Philadelphia for about half the free agents lol. I'll be lucky to get one or two of those guys right. My reasonings for those players are 1) I think we could use a defenseman like Ehrhoff/Wisniewski/White/Babchuk because I think they would fit into our team and I've been hearing that we're interested in Bogosian so these guys would be able to join our team without compensation going the other way. 2) we may go out and get forwards like Larose/Cole/Higgins/Ward to help our scoring out a bit 3) cheaper alternative defensemen like Sopel/O'Brien who won't cost as much as other defensemen but can still get the job done 4) forwards like Sjostrom/Asham to help the penalty kill which may be a bit of a question mark due to the Darroll Powe trade. 5) obviously resigning Leino wouldn't be out of question. 6) THIS IS THE BIG ONE! all of these other signings depend on if we do this or the other big rumor surrounding the Flyers. These other signings depend on if the rumors about Richards and Stamkos are true. If we sign one of those two, (I think Richards would be more likely) those other signings don't happen. Obviously at this point those two are just speculation and/or rumors but anything is possible in this crazy world.

They signed him close to the league minimum and put up a 50 point season if I recall correctly? Obviously he's useless for doing that

side note: I think the 2011 'Free Agent Frenzy' will be even worse than 2010-2011 trade deadline day. Hope Duthie is taking up some hobbies

Why do so many of you guys think avs will re-sign budaj?
Yeah I know we did not QO Elliott, still avs announced like a month ago that budaj will NOT return.
Furthermore: Konopka? Why? We really do not need more bottom 6 guys, especially Centers.
Fleischmann is not that sure as well.

I guess we are going to sign vokoun, a dman (and maybe a back-up goalie)..
