If he wants to sign with us for pennies on the dollar to be reunited with his clearly long lost twin (Dubi.. anyone got that hilarious photo comparison?), then sure. But anything more than pennies and I say hell no.
It honestly wouldn't shock me, but it would only happen if Kaberle was willing to accept a 1 or 2 year deal. If his market value took a hit from his lack of production, I could see it. But my guess is some other team will outbid us, and Kaberle doesn't strike me as one of those guys who would choose New York for less money. He's a left D and he can QB a powerplay, it makes sense in terms of a fit for the roster. In terms of money, it makes little sense...but stranger things have happened.
I'm right there with you. I would rather drag my ball sack on razor blades and dip it in rubbing alcohol then watch this team sign Kaberle and turn him into the whipping boy with an overpaid contract for the next 5 years. GAWD it would be Rozival+Redden Redux.
Up until what I saw of him with the Bruins, I would have gladly taken Kaberle for a few years...Now, I'm a little leery of him...
But make no mistake, the Rangers desperately need an offensive d-man/PP-guy...Right now, Girardi is arguably the best offensive d-man the team has....MDZ is more Del ZERO then Del Zotto and has been one of the worst d-men in the NHL his last two years,...Needs to spend more time in the AHL learning the defensive, positional and mental aspects of his position....
Back to who to get, don't know..But I would look at Wisnewski and Babchuk...two players entering their prime on a roll with their entire game improving and darn good offensively.....
If the Rangers sign Richards, it makes no sense to do so without aquiring an offensvie D-man to make this team more complete...otherwise, you are jsut throwing money away on Richards..
Actually Kaberle's biggest asset is his capability to make the PP break out pass to the fast moving forward, after making couple of fake moves. This ability is vital and
not many Dman have that.
There is likely zero chance the Rangers sign Kaberle.
Or almost zero. If he suddenly becomes right handed and/or is willing to take a major pay cut. Or if he is unsigned in September and we suffer a major injury. Very, very unlikely considering the makeup of the defense.
Lets keep this thread from becoming one where people freak out on the organization for possibly, in the future, doing something that a third party suggested, something that is almost certainly not going to happen. Those threads suck.
"OHHMMGGZZZZ DA RANGERSSSS NEVER LEARNN REDDEN DRURYRRY GOMMEZZ NOW KABERLE LOOLLLLZZZZZZ!!11!!!"
I don't have time to sift through all the previous replies, but my position is this.
1. Kaberle was a good/underrated player for a lot of years. 2 Years ago I wanted to trade for him
2. Kaberle did not look like his old self this year in Toronto, and even worse in Boston
3. I dont like our track record with expecting players to have a "bounce back" year.
4. At this point I would prefer to take a MDZ. Event hough Kaberle might still be a better hockey player, I would like to see MDZ grow with the team, and he will be cheaper.
if the management reckons MDZ is ready. I can't make that call, they will

Kaberle was a bargain throughout his career. I couldn't blame him if he tried to
get a whopper, but I really believe his playoff performance did him more harm than good. I reckon he will go for under 4.
I reckon there will be teams looking for an offensive anchor, Red Wings for 1 have a history of doing just that (Fetisov anyone)
We will be crying over what might have been.
I am not a Kaberle groupie but i reckon we could do a lot lot worse than him.
oh really; what would you classify it as. Apparently you don't play

BAD IDEA!!!!!
Dude...I was on a conference call when I read this...laughed right into the phone
The Rangers desperately need a veteran D-man, but that guy needs to be able to play the right side, with Staal, McDonagh, Erikson and Del Zotto on the left already
