Frazer McLaren signs - is he ready do you think?

Frazer McLaren signs a one year deal today. You think he's ready for a full season with the big club? I would LOVE to see him make great strides this year. Was hoping for it last year, but didn't see him much.

What do you AHL Sharks watches say?

Haven't heard a good word spoken of him since his injury.

Mashinter is the man now dog.

I'm disliking the idea of having a one-dimensional enforcer, so I sincerly hope he can find a place on the checking line...

I liked him when he was up here. I'd like to see us go zero enforcers except for a few games against ducks and other enforcer heavy teams. But even then, the enforcer role nowadays is kind of pathetic. It's like "oh hey you're an enforcer, i'm an enforcer, lets fight for no reason other than that this is all we know how to do". Show me an instance where a goon has really prevented an injury...If anything the goons will mess with star players to get a response from the other goon(who is never on the ice with the star players anyway).

The goons are there to please the crowd, nothing more. So home games vs the ducks i'm ok with it just because people expect a fight with parros when they go to games like that...

mash vs mclaren, I'd say mclaren handles parros better:

I don't feel like adding the mashinter fight but you can google it, mash never really looks like he can do more than the occasional jab on parros the entire fight before getting thrown to the ice.

210 seems to think mclaren is the most useless skater on the baby sharks. that doesn't bode well...

true, but I see Mash having a more similar potential of ryan clowe, where as Mclaren was definitely less useful offensively.

I agree.

I don't think the Sharks should use a roster spot on an enforcer. I was surprised he was re-signed in the first place.

I liked Frazer in his limited role in 09-10. He actually played pretty well, and fought well too.

Don't think Mash is as good a fighter, but he's otherwise more talented across the board.

That's not an accurate representation of my position. A fighter that does not fight is worthless. Last season in Worcester McLaren did absolutely nothing, including not fighting. He was essentially worthless.

Two season ago McLaren looked like a budding star, and was legitimately part of our #1 penalty killing pair. Last season, injured or not, he looked like a cement head out there and then never dropped the gloves, including times when it was an out and out necessity for him to do so.

Agreed I think Frazer is having a hard time finding his exact role.

What he does (well, did two years ago) is not what he'll be doing in SJ, which causes issues...it's the same problem McGinn has.

Question for 210-

Of the potential Worcester shuttle players who do you see sticking with the big sharks?
Also, who is used in which role in Worcester? Who is on the pk/pp, who is a scorer or a grinder etc?

An above average fighter and a horrible hockey player. Yeah, no thanks.

I also hate the idea of a one-dimensional enforcer. You don't need to fight to shift monmentum and it's better to give the spot to someone who is, you know, a good hockey player. I love fighting and think it can help you win, but I hate the idea of wasting a spot in the lineup on someone who sucks at hockey and can't skate.

I actually strongly disagree with your statement. I think Mclaren has the ceiling potential to put up 20- 30 pts with 150+ Pims. which is actually really good for an enforcer. Whether or not he reaches this potential is completely up to him. In the 09-10 season i thought Frazer was actually playing good and making a difference in his limited minute role. However this season i saw Frazer as more of a liability than anything. But im glad we gave him another season to turn it around. He is still very young. And talented for an "enforcer". I was very surprised he was drafted as low as he was

He was fine a couple years ago, but he was brutal last year. You know how the saying goes, what have you done for me lately?

And yes for an enforcer he's a good player. But for an NHL player, which is who I prefer to be on the roster, he's horrible.

He needs to find his role. 09-10 when he was up he was effective and did his job well..took on some tough guys and even rag dolled Backes for messing with Heatley but last year he was a mystery.

I hate that they've groomed this kid to be an enforcer, because he sucks at it. The short time he was up here, I remember him being hard on the forecheck, and actually having some puck control and passing ability. I remember thinking, this guy has pretty good hands for a giant.

I'd like to see him get a shot, but I agree with others. I think Mashinter has overtaken him in his development.
