Remember when the Habs were giving away ALL their top prospects for him and one owner wanted to do it, one didn't. Obviously eventually they decided not to do it and looks like that was a TERRIBLE decision.

Vinik purchased the Bolts for 110 million dollars last year, the Bolts then went on to lose 20-25 million dollars being one game away from the SC finals. Now Vinik has to fork out another 100 million dollars for Stamkos which is close to the same amount as what he paid for the whole franchise.

I know Vinik is a billionaire but this is nothing to scoff at, huge money being paid out and squat coming back. Something has got to give in Tampa, I bet Vinny gets moved for peanuts and Stamkos is signed tonight.

the problem is they both have NTC. so it will be very interesting to get them to move.

Correction, Kubina as a limited NTC.

While Malone has a absolute NMC. He can only have a limited NTC from 13'-14 & 14'-15' where he can submit a list of 12 teams of his choice.

Vinny's contract is even more outrageous than Gomez', and he has a NMC. Who the heck could Tampa possibly trade that to?

Just read this

A source close to the situation told the Daily News that the Flyers' brass spent yesterday afternoon crunching numbers and mulling over whether to send an offer sheet to Stamkos' agents.

The offer sheet, which would still allow Tampa Bay first right of refusal, would be expected to be a deal of around 13 or 14 years and north of $100 million, which would put Stamkos on the Flyers' payroll for a manageable cap hit if the Lightning chose to not match the deal.
13-14 years?!?

Andreychuk on the Fan earlier seemed pretty confident that Stamkos was going to sign. Now, what else is going to say, but he said he talked to him this morning and said Stamkos wants to stay with the Lightning, is anxious to get a deal done. For what it's worth.

omg Stamkos is a leaf now surely

They all are good contracts instead of MAB which is only 1 million per year too.

Also we have plenty of cap space.

What the hell happened to Bettman laying down the law on these cap circumvetion moves? If Philly gives Stamkos a 14 year deal, that's like giving Bettman the middle finger.

Good question, all I am saying is that something has got to give in Tampa. Billionaire or not that kind of money being lost is ridiculous and it becomes even more ridiculous if you have to re-invest in it.

1. No such thing as cap circumvention in this case. A 14 year deal only takes Stamkos until hes 34.

2. The contract wouldn't circumvent the cap because the cap hit would be huge, Stamkos' salary will be evenly distributed as he'll still be in his prime when the contract ends.

How do you know it circumvents the Cap?

We better be in it too. I at a loss though what to offer in trade scenario. We finally have some good players on our team and some intriguing prospects. I would not offer any of Schenn, Dion, Kadri and 4 top forward prospects from our pool. Goalies prospects, defs prospects and futures.

Honestly I don't think it's a coincidence Stamkos, Doughty, Schenn still aren't signed. I bet they have had conversations with their GM who want to add a guy *coughRichardscough* but don't know what their contract demands will be. These guys are probably being good sports, waiting to see the other stuff unfold and then structure their contract in a way it can fit everyone. Or maybe that's just the positive nice guy inside of me.
