Didn't know that. Well that stinks. I guess I could live with a $5 million cap hit if it came to that and they moved out Sekera and Morrisonn.

Holy. Obviously he really wants to test the market given that the Isles gave up on him in a day, but that could've been a combination of a lot of things (Namely having to play for the Islanders...). Ehrhoff's been one of my targets for months now, get it done, Darcy!

... and even if you don't, at least you tried.

I suspect if they sign him, Morrisonn and/or Kotalik go to the Panthers.

If they sign Ehrhoff, I'd put the odds at 99.9% that both will be dumped somehow, somewhere....

If they sign both, wouldn't they have to buy out Kotalik and Morrisonn, as well as possibly deal Boyes in a salary dump?

they can put those 2 on waivers... they will probably trade Sekera who would've been paid more then half of what Erhoff will get.

They probably feel that there are enough teams who need to reach the cap floor, that they can find someone to take Boyes if necessary

I can't see Tallon taking a player like Kotalik that no one wanted last season on waivers.

Boyes makes much more sense because the Panthers need scoring...

Ehrhoff paired with Regehr would actually be one hell of a tandem. I anticipate if you guys sign him it'll be for around $5.5M+ on a long-term deal. He was rumoured to be asking $5.3M out of Vancouver for a term of 6 years...I don't know if he'd give the same "discount" (as he saw it) to a team he has absolutely no connection/ties to. He was offered around $4.6M from Vancouver.

Either way, good luck!

I don't really consider Morrisson a part of this team anymore. I just figured he would either be traded or play in Rochester. MAG is up full time, so that would be Regehr, Myers, MAG, Weber, Leopold, Sekera right now. I guess if they signed Ehroff it would make Sekera a 7th d-man or they could trade Sekera and make Morrisson the 7th man.

Isn't this what everyone wanted, the Sabres to emulate the Flyers from a few years back? Identify players they want and go full-bore to acquire their rights, then blow them away with an offer?
I think that's a big reason why they traded for his rights. They can't really go after Richards and Ehrhoff simultaneously while dumping some salary, if they don't even know if either will sign.

I only like this if they get him for less than market value and we waive goodbye to Leopold or Sekera. I don't see Ehrhoff as being a whole lot better than Leopold was last year. Though, he has definitely been more consistent and I was a little concerned that Leopold would not be able to repeat last year's performance.

Ballsy. A 4th isn't that big of a deal, especially given all of the prospects that we could trade off.

And as Jame said, we could always try to offload Boyes... it would also make Sekera a bit more expendable if need be.

Our defense will be a bit ridiculous if he signs.

There's a few things running through my head on it.

1. Buffalo fans are NEVER happy

2. Darcy can probably makes deals to dump salary

3. Other defenseman could be moved out

Hopefully, they talk to him and realize quickly what his demands are and say the same thing as the Isles and Canucks did: "Thanks but no thanks".

Just maybe the Sabres believe they can acquire a playmaking center through a trade that carries a lot less expensive tag than Richards.

Just because the fans are beating the Richards drum doesn't mean the Sabres management is.

I hope he signs with our Buffalo cousins. This would be one of the few teams I wouldn't rage at Ehrhoff for being on. I hope you guys do manage to sign him, but for nothing over $5.5 million. Even 5.5 is a bit scary, but he is a great great puck moving d-man, and should help out your PP.

Good luck!

Truth. There could be a trade, Sekera has decent value, for instance.

Also, it doesn't necessarily rule out Richards. Richards has 'said' he will take a lesser contract for a team with a shot...maybe this is part of that.

Maybe it's just to make Miller happy...we don't know.

I went from sorrow, that the Isles got Ehrhoff's rights, to disbelief that the Sabres now have them. Would be absolutely amazing if they could get him signed by Friday.

Do you think maybe Darcy, Black, and Pegula may be hedging their bets, in case they cannot get Richards, to be able to come up with a package to land another center via trade with Sekera as the focal point?

I am sooo not used to this....
