Hey, remember Tomas Fleischmann?

He was pretty solid for the Avs after the trade for Hannan with 8 goals and 21 points in 22 games for them.

The blood clot injury seems to have scared them away though.

What teams would be interested and how much do you guys think he can get as an UFA?

I don't know anything about the injury other than "blood clots" and "serious". More to the point - I haven't heard a prognosis. If it's a freaky one time thing and he's totally healthy with little chance of recurrence, then I wouldn't think the inury/illness would play much of a role. If the prognosis is iffy - then it will play a major role in what he can get or even if he ever plays again. Hopefully it's the former.

If healthy, Id love to see him on our 2nd line with Hossa. Heck, while I'm pipedreaming let's sign Laich too and have a Fleischmann-Laich-Hossa 2nd line.

From what ive read, it is treatable with medication. He should be able to resume his career. However he already had a blood clot in his leg with the caps which he missed some time. This time around it was more serious and had to put on blood thinners for months. I think Gms are wondering if this could be a yearly thing. One in 09 and two in 10. See what happens in 11. He'll get picked up but not for much.

I remember an article from the end of March where they said he was skating already. But I didn't hear anything about him after that.

Sharks signed Jed Ortmeyer (sp?), who had a pretty serious blood clotting condition as well. Maybe they take the plunge and reap the reward!?!

Hope the Avs sign him back if he's ready to go.

Was looking lethal with Dutchy before the Avs injury curse struck

Now with Gabe in the mix aswell, the Avs could potential have an exciting set of forwards next year.

Landeskog
Duchene
Stastny
Flash
Jones
Muellar
Galiardi
Hejduk
RO'R

(In no particular order)

I was hoping LA would sign him as he can play LW and Center and may have been good on the 2nd line. Since the Richards deal has given LA its #2 center for years I think he may still be a very good option as a scoring LW on one of the top lines. Maybe a one year $2.5-3M deal?

He's REALLY best suited on the wing, can be play in the middle? Sure, in a pinch but he's not a 2C or even a strong 3C FWIW.

If I were the Sens, I'd be willing to pay him more money than usual if it was on a shorterm (1/2 year) contract.

He'd be a perfect fit on the Blues to replace Perron, since it looks like he's not going to make the start of the season. He'd probably also take a cheap, short-term contract to prove that he's still OK to play, which is what the Blues need.

If he needs to be on blood thinners long term, his career is probably done. If they decide that the chance of recurrence is low, then he resumes his career as per normal and it probably won't hinder him, except that he may not really be in the greatest shape fitness-wise for this next season

I think Holland and the Wings will consider signing Fleischmann. Babcock already expressed the desire for another top six player (winger) and Tomas would fit the bill. Not to mention the Wings did draft him originally, so the FO obviously likes his skill set.

I agree with the short term contract, but not the whole "cheap part". He and his agent are going to point towards the fact that he was a near PPG player playing on the 2nd worst team in the NHL. What was your definition of cheap?

How much do you think Fleischmann will be looking for? Will he take less for a long term deal considering his health? would a team risk signing him to long term deal considering his possible upside?

funny how people say Crosby is done for career but you got dudes like Peter Mueller who miss nearly the whole season with concussion symptoms as well

Hope both of these guys are ready for training camp in september. Mueller will be a star soon

If I was the Rangers, I would see what a three year deal for 9.5 million total, would do for him. I always liked him on Washington, but he didn't get top line minutes until going to Colorado. On the Rangers, it would be possible he would be playing with Gaborik and Richards, and yes, they should have enough money to get both of them IF this is what Fleischmann gets.

If you are tossing Boyle on the fourth line. I have to ask what his worth is in a trade because lord knows Montreal could use a center with some size.

Man, it seems like Perron has been out forever. I feel really bad for him. Seems like a great guy. Fun to watch. Hopefully he gets healthy ASAP.

He's a solid player, wouldn't mind Ottawa signing him to a short-term deal.

Not to alarm you but I don't think anyone should be banking on Mueller being ready to play by next year or ever even being able to play again. Not that Crosby is in the same situation... he's dealing with his first major concussion injury whereas it's an established, recurring injury for Mueller. Last time he attempted to play it was for less than a period of a preseason game, and he immediately aggravated the injury, after which he missed the entire season.

I also hope the best for both and hope Crosby's situation is not as bad as Mueller's. Love him or hate him it'd be a shame for the league to lose one of it's true superstars.

But about Fleischmann, certainly if he can return to play I think the Avs should be the first team to make him an offer which I hope he'd expect. Hell I wouldn't be surprised to see them overpay him slightly, if only for one year.

Flash said he was prepared to send medical reports to teams on July 1st saying he was ready to train and play, but the Avs medical staff has not cleared him yet. He's been skating from what I know and he was expected to given a clean bill of health this summer.

I'd love to see him back with the Avs, but it is looking less and less likely as July 1st rolls around.

Pretty sure he can hold out for some good cash with the cap increase and the limited free agent class provided his medical reports are positive.

The blood clots were in his lungs, serious stuff that is made worse by living at altitude and flying in planes. Flash put up big numbers in Colorado playing with Duchene and Hejduk, in the right setting he can be a very productive player. Question is how long can he play?

I also heard that this injury is bad with altitude. So Denver+extra plane time we have is not the best for Flash. But of course all injuries are specific to the person so maybe in Flash's case it's not an issue.
But if the Avs don't give him an offer I'm going to assume it has something to do with him wanting to get out of the altitude and long plane flights. He was a beast for us with Duchene.
