There's also Ferriero.

I think they like him as top 6 call up. The others are better fits on a 4th line. I suppose you could put him on the third with pavs, but that is pretty small.

Yeah, when is Ferriero going to get a contract? Hopefully DW breaks with the pattern of one year contract to can get him to sign low for multiple years. Two years at around what Mcginn got would be nice, but then I'm a big Ferriero fan.

I actually like him on the line with Clowe and Couture, I know it's not the popular opinion. He works hard and already has chemistry with Couture, having Clowe around should help make up for his size. If he can get to be a little bit more consistent I think he should do fine.

I as well. Would much rather see McLaren on the 4th line than either the likes of either mayers or eager. Hopefully this is the plan in going forward in revamping the necessary 4th line.

I think the Ferriero experiment has failed. He just doesn't have the talent to be a 2nd line forward on a SC contender.

It doesn't help his case that he is a very balanced offensive talent with no special skills. If he was a great forechecker, had great speed, or had great hands, he could fill a niche...

The kid reminds me of a less talented Dimitrakos, who had better hands and better feet.

Ouch! Dimitrakos? I think we should let Ferriero play a whole season before we say the experiment failed. I do feel he needs to put on some more muscle if he wants to be effective though.

Seriously, do you just wait around for opportune times to insert Marcou into the conversation? Because the only time you seem to post is when you can talk about him.

And I also don't think I would call 19 points in 41 games at the AHL level as particularly good in terms of translating to the NHL Especially since all 4 of his goals were on the PP.

He's not in the conversation here for an SJ roster spot. There are at least 4 or 5 guys who were on the Worcester shuttle that are ahead of him. There's no room for an undersized forward who's almost entirely a PP specialist.

dont forget the other forward under contract who didnt get to play at all last year due to a injury, hopefully he has fully recovered and can show his stuff next year. I also hope that the formar sharks like Lopreno. Hutton, Scjhaus and Davis get some chance to play somewhere.

And for those who are in the TLDR crowd, let me summarize.

Marcou blows donkey nuts, please stop talking about him...

I always thought McGinn played like a less talented Bernier/Michalek mix. Now he's got Big Bear's gut to go along with it.

How about a fatty line of McGinn-Wellwood-Bernier next season?

Mcginn will play well next yr, the last playoff let him settle in. like any young guy competing for a spot yr in yr out, you need a little confidence, and the playoff experience he got this past yr was hopefully it. he can grab 15 goals in a good yr, he has more than just a 4th liner upside.

Everyone will agree with you that his upside is higher than a 4th liner. But McGinn is a frustrating case. He has good feet, he's fairly strong, and has (what I consider) a good shot. Don't know what he's missing really. Frustrating for everyone I'm sure.

agreed, i just think its confidence at the nhl level. he dominated junior, played well in the ahl considering is constant callups and send downs and when he settles into a role for the sharks, he'll excel. he was snake bitten last yr. and outside of last year, his development hasn't really been affected.

youre right, he does have a good shot and whats underestimated about him are his intangibles, good leader, good heart, hes a hockey players hockey player. one thing is certain, its a make it or break it yr for him

Hockey IQ. He's a less skilled, less intelligent Setoguchi. And Setoguchi already has very poor hockey IQ.

At least you'll robably get the very best that McGinn has. This is his make or break year. 1 year contract. If he succeeds this year he can probably make it as a decent 3rd liner for the next 6-8 years.

If he fails, he may never make it back to the NHL. I have to believe he knows that. If he's smart he'll come to camp in tip top shape and ready to go...

That's a bit harsh of a prediction for a failure. He's going to be 23 to start this season and 24 start next. If he fails miserably here, someone will give him a chance elsewhere and probably with a longer leash.
