Just because Burke isn't here it doesn't matter, Nonis has been the one that's been making the signings the past few seasons, He's the one that pitched Cammilarri to come, and heck with Waddel being great pals with Morris, I'm sure there's a chance he can get Richards to come unless Sather pullls out a massive contract to him in which I will not or even think Burke would match and Richards will be injured in New York and of course Sather will just bury him in the minors..
I'm sure Nonis can handle overpaying a couple of grinders....
3rd lines are very important to a team's success. Look at the Boland line in Chicago when they won the cup, the Kelly line for Boston, the Lapierre line for Vancouver. If Leafs can land Upshall to play with Bozak and Armstrong assuming Bozak is not the 1st line C this upcoming season, this should be a productive line. Upshall and Army play a similar irritating style to the opposition, this would be a fun line to watch. If Leafs can lock up Scotty.
oh please. quit slurping Burke for one second, defending every single thing he does.
why aren't the other 29 GM's there. it's just unprofessional, how can you not see this??
unprofessional? Let Burke's bosses tell him what is professional and unprofessional. I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not but a few of your comments have been nothing but disrespectful to our country and our troops. Burke knows what his job entails and if he thought this was actually going to interfere with the leafs operations and actions in free agency he wouldnt be there. He has a team of professionals with a ton of experience who he trusts and have done this many times before. He is going to a war torn country to support and rally 1000's of our troops on our countrys birthday, and he wasnt even born in our country. You should be ashamed of yourself.
This is why they should move Free Agency Day from July 1st...but I seem to recall it was shot down by the PA or something, so here we are.
That said, we can trust the other GMs in the Leafs office to make these deals. ...Stampkos must be impressed by this!
Burke gets paid 5 million a year to take care of this ship. Certainly supporting the troops is a good cause and nobody is going to debate that, but the troops have been there for 10 years, and the timing of this is bad.
Even if Nonis is handling everything -- just for the smallest and tinyest chance that he is needed here -- he should be.
Afghanistan could wait until next month and he doesn't need to be there at arguable the most important time of year.
Sorry Burke, actually I'm not sorry, you are always busy calling people out -- well it's your time to face the music and the 5 million a year you get to manage this team says your butt should be here. No excuses -- this is bad management. You can support the troops on another day -- they've been there for ten years -- and you didn't need to be there right now.
Unless Brad Richards is in Afghanistan then there's no reason Burke should be. But I'm sure Brad isn't becuase this is one of the most important days of his career and is sticking around just in-case he is needed.
Burke will never admit he isn't perfect but he's made some mistake -- big mistakes -- hopefully this doesn't become one of them.
Jeez..the guy is over there to lift the spirit to the troops who fight for the freedom we take for granted everyday. I'm sure they're not thinking "hey, shouldn't you be in Toronto signing Brad Richards?"
There's bigger things than hockey, as hard as that might be to believe. Leaving a strong front office behind mitigates any effect this might have. If anything, Burke still has a phone and can talk to pending signees if he wants. Not a big deal.
