Bob McKenzie saying it looks like Ehrhoff might be signing with the Sabres. If true, thank God he's in the East at least.

Again, all that stuff is obviously from the agent's side and is at best half-true and at worst complete spin.

Look at what he signed for and a discount off that may have been 500k at best. He certainly wouldn't likely take a $1 million per year discount on a deal like that.

People are panicking as usual but we have to wait and see how it all shakes out. Losing Ehrhoff will hurt but I think at worst he can be replaced via committee. I think what we need is to find a good right handed passing/playmaking defensemen for the PP. Someone who can quickly move the puck to Edler for a one timer, something the left handed Ehrhoff couldn't do.

I've said it before, the team that pays him 6+ will be paying him to be a number 2 d man and that is something he isn't capable of.

I know we're in win-now mode, but in a few years, Tanev would be the ideal candidate for this. His shot is currently terrible, but his vision is there as is his crisp passing.

As for this year, I suppose Bieksa could fill in. Even Salo should be sign him.

And I have a feeling Ballard will surprise us this coming year. People are on him like he's the worst defenseman in the league, but he showed a lot prior to AV benching him. Yes, he was bad in his last game in the SCF, but in the regular season he was a very servicable D-man.

Good, Wiz with Jackets and Ehrhoff with Sabres = nothing for Wings and Bruins. Damn the Hawks though.

RealKyper
#Sabres will soon announce Ehroff deal. Keep in mind he turned down big #Isles offer. It a deal believed to be between 5 -5.5M on aav.

Signs in the east, and not with boston or detroit or san jose. Buffalo is a fine destination for him, and good for us in a sense.

Why would he? This offer has to be damn good for him to pass up July 1st. 5.5m+ front-loaded, long-term. Wouldn't be surprised by 6 even.

Kypreos saying it will be announced soon and it's believed to be 5-5.5m AAV. I would have gone to about $5m/year personally at the very highest...

No big names, but there are still a lot of interesting complimentary forwards out there. Some teams could get some decent top-sixers for decent prices.

I agree. This isn't as big a deal as a lot of people are making out. Sure it would be nice to have Ehrhoff back but its not like his points can't be made up elsewhere or by someone else. Not too concerned about this at all really, especially since it's not even July 1st yet.

5-5.5 isn't bad. He isn't worth that many years, but this year he is.

I dont know how you rationalize Ehrhoff being the 3rd highest cap hit on the team. Especially when he cant play against the other teams' top lines.

He wont sign here. Sounds like Gillis wont be making a dip into free agency.

The trade market is still open for business though.

Could be a retirement deal too. That would bring his cap hit down.

http://twitter.com/sportsnetbroph - Good source tells me Sabres knew they could sign Ehrhoff when they got his negotiating rights. Deal should be done soon.

if its over 7 years and around 5m, I am sorry but I would be pissed. We should have done that.

If its over 7 years and 5.5m, then gillis did the right thing to walk away.

Rather he go to buffalo then detroit or boston.
