Is Mesz Being Dealt? - Please Don't Shoot the MesZenger

Normally... that meaning prior to last Thursday... I would laugh this off, but after the Richards AND Carter bomb, followed by the Powe to the gut, I suppose anything is open for discussion... Anybody hear any other source saying this?

@SunGarrioch - Bruce Garrioch

A player not a UFA who could be on the move: Philly D Andrej Meszaros.

I think he is full of crap, if you ask me... Makes no sense unless the return is outstanding.

Just an Ottawa reporter trying to make it seem like he knows inside stuff about a former Ottawa player. I'm not worried

they arent dealing mez. Almost certain they want to keep the defense corps, and maybe add some more talent to it in the 6th spot.

Unless they are very intrigued by a trade, they are likely just going to sign forwards to fill out this roster.

Who really knows anymore, but if he does goes that opens up a decent amount of cap space for possibly something bigger???

I don't know what the rationale for trading him could even possibly be.

Samesies. He was an absolute beast last year. I would not support this move, at all.

This would be shocking, but what else would be new this offseason?

Garrioch is a hack of a writer/hockey insider. Makes Brooks and Eklund seem credible.

if we traded him, I think we'd all be REALLY happy with the return...b/c homer aint moving mesz w/o a HUGE overpayment happening. someone must think he is a #2 or #1b defenseman...

Hoping that it's all BS; Garrioch isn't exactly reliable...

That said, if this were to happen - especially if it's to make room for Jagr - I will punch someone.

People bashing this rumor need to relax...you have absolutely NO IDEA what the return is, if a team makes a huge overpayment how could you be mad? You don't know what you are getting in return so before you bash the rumor just relax.

That (bolded line) was a clear feeling I got when Richards and Carter were moved and neither Carle nor Coburn were moved... Homer made such a point about building up the depth on D for the postseason, and I understand adding the True Number One goalie -- a Mr. Snider's demand(?) -- but I don't see why he suddenly would change his stance and weaken he D-unit... especially after hitting a homer (no pun intended) with Mesz regaining much of his rookie promise last season.

Make little sense.

If it's a huge return, everyone will probably be quite happy.

If it's just to make room to give Jagr money (and moving Mesz to make room for Jagr implies overpayment, to me), it's a terribad move.

they are keeping the defense, and they only one who they would trade at this point would be carle but not so sure they want to do that either. Unless someone called and offered the flyers a serious bundle of treasure this wont be going down

I posted this in the stamko thread, Jagr was reportedly offered 1m from Pitt, maybe 2m from Detroit. By the sounds of it we dont have to dump salary to sign Jagr.

And Garrioch is a big fat hack.

At the STH Town Meeting I heard Homer say he wanted Carle resigned and would try to make it happen (paraphrased)... but of course that means nothing really I suppose... but Carle is working well in the unit, and especially when Pronger is playing and healthy, I see no reason to move him at this point... I think Bryz backstopping this D, with some help from the forwards, has nothing but promise written all over it.

Meszaros for Kane + Bogosian + 1st 2012.

Overpayment? Yes.

Do I care? No.

Nobody gets Mez without slicing off their own freaking arm.

You could probably take out Kane and it would still be a decent return, if you assume Winnipeg will be back in top-10 next year--given the strength of that draft, right?

Paul Holmgren: "This is the trade you are looking for."

Kevin Cheveldayoff: "Hey guys! I think this is the trade we're looking for!"

I was being completely belligerent with that post, but honestly...

Meszaros for Bogosian + 1st in 2012 isn't too bad.

If we could nab someone like Ryan Murray or Griffin Reinhart or Nick Ebert or Jacob Trouba or Jordan Schmaltz or a billion other defensemen that could go high in 2012...

Or Filip Forsberg

I'd be alright even though I really love Meszaros. 2012 could be like 2008 was for defensemen.

this isn't the usual flyers team though. Our forwards all dont have to be very good defensive players to help out our shotty goalie. With the defense and bryz in net we should be more than capable of locking it down.
