Since Gerbe made less than I expected by virtually the same amount McCormick made more, it all evens out for me. Was expecting in the ballpark of $950k for McCormick, 1.55-1.65 for Gerbe. Both actual numbers fit.

Too much for Cody but it all depends what he does in the next 3 years.I like what he brings to the team now he just needs to step up abit and get some more points for that money he got.

Bit more than we'd have figured of course but I can totally see other teams willing to give him more. Let's not forget how much the cap went up. Cody's really shown he belongs in the NHL over this past season + playoffs before that. I'm happy with the signing. If they didn't get him they'd have had to sign someone similar and who knows if that player would work out quite as well. Not a great signing, contract-wise. It hurts any time you have to pony up to a role player. Hopefully the term and relative small amount of contract ensures it's all worthwhile.

I like Cody, but that's way too much. He will be a good soldier but on an improved Sabres team should be a 4th liner with only occasional shifts on the 3rd line. That's too much money in our 4th line imho.

Not an overpayment at all. He earned himself a good raise. The one thing that stands out for me is that when Cody's line is on the ice, the puck spends most of the time in the offensive zone. It may not be going into the opposing net all that much, but at least there are lots of chances for us and few the other way.

Really glad they brought him back! He's been soooooo much better than Mair.

Agreed. He's a great forechecker, and his linemates follow suit.

More $ than I thought it would be but still acceptable. Props to Cody's agent for angling for this deal, and props to Regier for ponying up.

Well, he's also 4 years younger than Adam Mair. How many people really had a problem with Mair when he was 28? Although, by bringing up Mair you've basically explained why I don't like giving 3 year deals to players like McCormick.

The age makes a difference but he's just a better overall player than Mair was.

You believe McCormick is a better player than Mair was at the same age (06-07 season?). I personally think they're essentially the same player, but I'm willing to be convinced.

I like how every contract given out is overpayment

The cap went up, and inflation is rampant.

I think he's considerably better on the forecheck, along the walls, and at cycling the puck. I wouldn't say he has much better offensive tools though his pass seems better to me. They have similar effect in that their hard work can result in their lines having long offensive possessions but Cody is a lot more effective at it to my eyes.

I am very happy for Cody and expect he will earn every penny he makes. He is an honest hard working great guy and seems like a great teamate and lockeroom guy.
I think this is a just reward for him.

Awards:
Considering Rupp just picked up three years at $1.5M per year. Jordin Tootoo makes $1.25M cap. He's in their range as a player, given his physical contributions and scoring.

IMO a little over paid for a guy who got around 500,000 last year

Last year he got fringe NHLer pay. He's no longer a fringe NHLer and earned a full time spot with his strong forechecking, decent point production, and grit. I would have preferred 900,000 to a million. But in the grand scheme of thing, 200,000 more is nothing.

Then you must really hate the Leino signing.

If a player deserves x, then he should get that, I don't think it should be relevant how much he made before.

I can't believe no one is making a big deal out of how front-loaded this contract is. 1.4 in the first year and dropping all the way down to 1.0!?! Everyone knows he's not going play that last season! Cap circumvention I tells ya! Cap Circumvention! For shame.

Just in case...

This .. I must be in minority here in thinking he will earn this contract and then some. I feel comfortable with him anchoring the 3rd line and as we seen last year is capable of filling in on occasion flanking the wing on the 2nd and not looking out of place at all.. Good Deal!

after watching some highlights from last season, Cody deserves that contract just for clearing 2 Canes after the Enroth helmetless save.

I feel the same way. Cody doesn't seem like the type of guy that's going to start coasting now that he got his payday. He seems like the type of guy that would work harder than anyone in the offseason to prove he was worth it.
