[VAN] Vancouver re-sign Sami Salo (1yr/2M)

RealKyper Nick Kypreos
#NHL news. Scratch Sami Salo of the UFA list. He re-signs in with #Canucks. Working on the details but believed to be a 1 year deal at 2M.

I'd be happier if it was around 1.5 but it's still a great deal for a guy who is still easily a top 4 dman when healthy

Edler, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Alberts, Tanev, Salo, Ballard, and Rome are all under contract. That's pretty crazy, but injuries do strike.

Short-term, low price. I wouldn't be complaining about it if I were a 'Nucks fan. Good job by Gillis at retaining a deep defense.

Worth every penny when healthy in my opinion, but since it is only one year even if it was overpayment I would not be concerned.

keep in mind that he was still coming back into form( playoffs)

so he can be better with an extra 3 mths healthy achilles tendon

love it when you can have a top 2 in your bottom pairing

did he suffer a broken finger or wrist sprain in the signing process?

so everyone was saying in the yr Bieksa was gone due to cap restraints but it was Erhoff. Salo for another yr makes sense

Hamuis, Bieksa, Edler, Ballard, Salo, Alberts, Tanev, Rome

Seems like more than enough. I am sure they try and move Ballard to a team that needs to reach the cap floor. Can't believe how that guy just stinks now.

No, but it is believed he received emergency surgery for a paper cut sustained by holding the contract itself. His expected recovery time is 3-5 months, should be back mid November at the latest.

another season under the canucks and Ballard will be fine........more minutes may be the best thing for him...and healthy to start the season.

the only way He gets traded....is if they have a deal for one of the teams well under the cap...and b)they have a ready winger ready to play in our top 6

a)they have it set up(tradewise) so they can go for Richards

I find him to be incredibly underrated. Health issues, sure, but very solid when playing.

Ha Ha!

Toronto 590 just said that Salo's contract works out to about 250k per game played.

Glad to see him still keep going, also a very nice deal for the Canucks. I hope he can avoid the nut cracking etc. and play a healthy (by his standards ~70 games) next season.

Exactly.

This is a great deal. He definitely took a discount. I think every team in the league would take him at $2m for 1 year.
