Well, it's a start. And hey, he can play Left Wing and Defence, so he's versatile. Also a product of the Detroit Red Wings.

Good depth signing. Jets start by putting a toe in the free agency pool, not jumping right in...

Just wait until the news breaks that they've signed Stamkos to an offer sheet.

Good for Meech.

The kid has some skill, but never got a real chance in Detroit. He was always the Wings 7th D and would only play when injuries struck. He does have a bit of playoff experience too.

This is starting to look like an AHL team. Dudley would have actually done something. TNSE REALLY blew it hiring this GM. This team was not a playoff contender last year, and it will not be one this year. This team has only gotten worse thus far.

Incredibly disappointed in the lack of signings today. Nearly all of the quality players that would have helped the Jets are already gone.

Can't agree with any of this. It's very obvious to anyone that has listened that the Winnipeg Jets are going to build a team in a slow, methodical manner primarily via drafting and developing players and taking a long term approach. Brian Burke or Glen Sather would not be happy to be GMs here. We are patient.

I agree. I'm worried that Chipman won't spend past the floor of the cap when it was expected that Winnipeggers spend their hard-earned money on guaranteed season ticket sales.

This post really frustrates me because I'm not able to use a facepalm emoticon with my blackberry. Sigh.

Really dude? You're gonna write off the GM and the TEAM for proceeding cautiously when everyone else spends CRAZY $$$

Nobody has said they haven't tried to sign anybody. It was pretty much the consensus on the TSN panel that some teams would have to OVERPAY to attract a player much the same way Columbus had to to get Wisniewski to sign.

I'd rather they not tie themselves down with a contract they want to rid themselves of in 2 or 3 years.

We are never going to spend for the sake of spending. Once we have a legitimate chance at the Cup we will add high priced free agent help and spend to or near the cap. That's the reality of the market and is also the best way to do it imo. The issue with the team we inherited is that the key players are still young and inexperienced and there is not a lot of depth. Slow and steady wins the race. TNSE is smarter than you think.

I don't know what they are thinking. Maybe their plans for Meech are to send him to the Moose. Too early to judge yet I think. I'm waiting to see what the roster looks like for training camp.

Well, they looked like an AHL team for the last 2 years as well. The Jets' lack of activity today should come as no surprise since TNSE stated they weren't going to go crazy in the FA market, correct? (Or maybe they couldn't attract any free agents? )

Also, it's way too early to pass judgement on the new GM. But I certainly understand your skepticism because I'm aware you've been following this team for a long time, and this definitely looks like the past 3-4 years of Thrashers free agency at first glance. So far it looks like the same old, same old.

As someone who witnessed Darryl Sutter destroy the Flames with overpaid player contracts for Bowmeester, Sarich, Jokinen, Langkow et al and refusing to give any young players the ice time they need to develope, I'm satisfied with our lack of action today.

Lets face it, the Jets are a young team and are not going to challenge for a Stanley Cup next season.

Free agents like Richards, Lieno, Talbot want to go to a team that can compete for a Stanley Cup now.

I will be patient.
