People will be shocked to hear this, but I'm pretty okay with this deal. A fourth liner who can fight - but also play hockey? THAT is my idea of a useful enforcer.
Would've preferred 2 years, but no way that was happening with ten different teams in on him. It's certainly not above market. In fact, I'd have to say it's pretty reasonable given the other deals we've seen today.
Guys, we're getting a younger and faster version of Fedotenko in the lineup this year in Hagelin. Not high on the priority list. He might be a Torts guy, but there are more pressing needs that need to be filled.
By about one year.
Replaces Feds, doesn't hurt our chances to get Richards. Eh, whatever.
Well I am not too shocked about this signing. It was in either NYDAILYNEWS.COM or NYPOST.COM that the Rangers would be looking at Mike Rupp to sign.
It might even have been in todays or yesterdays paper. I actually just read the paper on the internet so thats why I sometimes forget which paper I read it in.
Now as for the signing. I am a little tired of the tough guy approach. I LOVE FIGHTS.. TRUST ME ON THAT! I hope that fighting NEVER goes away in the NHL. Thats what made me a fan 25 years ago!
But Brashear, Boogard, now Rupp? I hope Rupp pans out. I am not a fan of the cap hit. As Boogards was what, 1.6 million a year? Now Rupp is 1.5 a year? I know Rupp is better than what Boogard was. But we could have kept Fed's as our fourth line was set. Although, I am no person to be questioning the Rangers Brass as I am just a fan not a professional in this business.
So here is hoping to Mike Rupp plays up to what he is expected, no more, no less.
Rupp will lose sometimes but he'll bounce back up. Prust was in over his head too many times last year and sooner or later he's gong to get hurt doing that. And Rupp will play a lot more than Boogaard.
I like this signing as long as the intention was for him to replace Fedotenko on the 4th line. I'm guessing the Rangers know they will not be able to agree on a contract Feds and chose to spend the money elsewhere.
