Starting to warm up to this. Pens fans are saying he's an excellent forechecker, and good along the boards. Sounds like a great fit.

He is, absolutely. Another positive is that half of his playoff goals are Stanley Cup winning goals.

Fine with this, Rupp can play a regular shift. Solid player who stands up for his teammates and can contribute in other areas.

I like this signing - great bottom 6 guy, can play all over, physical...good signing. Would have prefered Konopka but Rupp is fine. Now get Brad and Babchuk and I'm thrilled.

The reasons I do not like this signing.
  • this move potentially takes a spot from Hagelin
  • 3 year commitment?
  • did we need to sign him so early? before Richards and all our RFAs?

As a fourth line, we add some size and toughness. Rupp can also score the occasional goal so as a roster addition, I have no problems. As an organizational move? I don't like it. If we were to fill this role, I would have wanted Konopka. Tougher, a faceoff guy, and PK guy.

Exaggerate much? lol Seriously, Avery is the least of this teams' problems. He's paid less then 2M/year, and has the talent to be more than an extra forward.

Good signing. He can play wing/center and adds more jam to the team. Term is a little long.

n8, what if the Rangers signed him because they knew they would not be able to reach an agreement with Fedotenko? I don't think we would have said Fedotenko being signed would take a spot away from a prospect like Hagelin.... In my opinion, if Hagelin was going to make the team, it was going to have to be in a 3rd line role anyway, as it wouldn't make any sense to skate him 8-10 minutes a night when he could be getting 20 minutes a night with the Whale.

That being said, there is still a glut of bottom 6 forwards on this team that needs to be sorted out... I don't know or see where Christensen and Avery are going to fit in... Who's going to be the odd man out? I don't know.

I actually don't mind this signing that bad so long as Rupp winds up playing for us on a regular basis, not as an occasional fill in. I think he should be fine.

ah, this is a good point... although we would be sacrificing goals for fists, no?

Maybe they think Rupp will replace Boyle? I actually like Boyle and he really REALLY improved his skating last year and I expected he would CONTINUE to improve his skating.

Obviously he is not gone yet. But this would make sense after signing Rupp.

Again, I am just a fan and I have no sources other than what people put on the internet which usually is 99.99% crap.
Where do you see that????

Very good signing for the fourth line. Much better than Boogard or Brashear. Rupp is huge and can actually play and fight. Front of the net presence. Plus he has winning playoff experience, which is very important with this young team.

Rupp scored 13 goals 2 years ago on the same team that Fedotenko scored 11. I'd say it's lateral in terms of offense.

I'm OK with this. Probably one too many years, probably a little too much per year...but this is better than Sather's previous enforcer signings. This guy can actually play a little.

This is a good move.

Rupp is not some gorilla that is out there for one this only.

The guy skates well, hits everything. Can score.

More importantly he is going to relieve some of the fighting burden from Prust thus allowing him to remain healthy (played and fought for most of last year with a torn labrum)

we get some legit size on the wing and a nasty SOB on the forecheck.

A solid signing.

I would be more concerned for both EC and Avery than Hagelin.

But a move like this means the end of the line for guys like Prospal and Feds for sure which is fine by me.

I think we have enough scoring to soften the blow of losing both of those guys. We needed a guy like Rupp.

Good signing.

This is the lineup that I see (assuming Brad signs, which looks increasingly more likely):

Wolski - Brad - Gabby
Dubi - Anisimov - Cally
Hagelin - Step - Zuccarello
Rupp - Boyle - Prust
______________________
Avery - Christ - Weise

If Hagelin proves capable of NHL play, which I think he will, there is definitely a spot for him. Avery and Christ will step in when someone is injured and/or if Zuccarello proves unworthy, which I think he won't.

It's up to Hagelin (and Zuccarello) to lose their spots in the top-9. If the two of them step up, and Gabby returns to his 40-goal form, the Rangers would be a Cup contender.

This was a much needed signing. Gives us a great LW for the Boyle Prust line and another option as far as a tough guy role goes.

Maybe not the best heavyweight out there, but he was able to go punch for punch with Orr while he was here, as well as having potted 22 goals the last 2 years.
