Not up to speed on Cole much lately. I like the player attributes for sure, but isn't this a big over payment. What were his stats last year?

I like him a lot, just not sure about 4.5 for 4 years, seems steep.

I like the terms, the player, but 4 years seems a bit long.

Either ways, kudos to Gauthier for adressing our need of a big body with scoring ability in our top 6.

Will also be a good veteran to have around young guys like Pacs and Eller.

Would love for us to add Gagne, give us even more flexibility in our top nine.
Ditto. That would make my day. Leino would be nice too

Good job PG.

Gonna be weird to cheer for Cole. He still gives me and the rest of the Thrashers fans nightmares.

This is getting roasted on the main board. This place is seriously full-blown retarded.

I like the signing, Cole was always a big game player, especially in Montreal, I hope he can take that magic and spread it out all season.

For 4.5 million to play for Montreal it's fair market value imo.

Overpayment would be 5+

A good deal would have been 4. It's Montreal though, we need to overpay a little bit. I guess what I'm saying is the contract makes sense for us and I'm looking forward to 4 years of Erik motha ****in' Cole being in our top 6. Now we're set!!

That's a lot of money but let's face it we will always have to overpay. Playing in Montreal is not a picnic.

not much to do there either, the lineup is starting to take shape

Cammy - Pleks - Cole
Patches - Gomez - Gio
ufa - Eller - AK46
Moen - DD - White

Darche

i say another big gritty guy for the fourth and someone mentioned, and i agree at the right price, Gagne on that third line

26goals and 52 pts, a lot of people on the main board saying it's an over payment

HAahahaha, when you put it this way. I'm on board. I guess I don't keep up with inflation well. 4/18 seems pretty hefty to me, but he's exactly the type of player we're missing.

I can't wait to read Bruins fans whiny comments the first time he runs over Tim Thomas.

The importance of this signing cannot be overstated. Cole is a big time player. He's a big tough physical presence who adds a lot of grit and toughness to our scoring line, and he can put the puck into the net -- 26 goals last season.

Picture a line with Cole and Gionta or Cammalieri, centered by Gomez or Pleks. However you slice it that's a damn potent line brimming with fire power. We don't have any Ovechkins on the team, but we can definately put together a line with a lot of firepower.

Great signing

yup...

fills a lot of needs, and if he stays healthy and avoids another "carolina withdrawal", then it should be a solid addition.

but at the price it cost to get him, it's gotta be considered a pretty big risk.

he's been banged up, and plays the game in a way that leads to physical breakdown... how is he going to be looking in 2-3-4 years? where will he be physically?

risky, but I guess the we had to give both term & top-dollar if we were going to win that bidding war.

When Scottie Upshall gets 3.5/year, I fail to see 4.5 on Cole as an overpayment.

Fair deal considering the market right now, and exactly the type of player we need.

I think we are much much better now.

It's Montreal - high taxes usually mean we need to offer more to stay on par with other offers. Add to that guys like Joel Ward getting 3 mil, and it's relatively solid. Ignore the main board - they will hate whatever we do.

PG's checklist for this day:

Sign a big top 6 winger (X)
Sign some grit for the bottom 6 ( )
Sign a backup goalie (X)
Sign a replacement for Hamrlik ( )

Looking good so far.

That's a lot of term for an older guy that has a history of concussions. He had a comeback year this year with 50 points and 26 goals. He'll need to keep that up for this contract to be worth it.
