3rd liners are going for 3 million. You want a 50 point 25+ goal guy to go for less than 4.5?

If anything I think we got the close to home discount.

Sure, if this move happened in 2006. But take a look around, tends is to overpay players by 1M$.

Joel Ward, unproven third liner, 30 points getter get 3M$
Scottie Upshall, third liner, 30 points getter get 3.5M$
Jaromir Jagr, haven't played in the league for three years, get +3M$
Maxime Talbot, fourth liner, 20 points, get 2M$
Ed Jovanovski, at 35 years old, sign a 4 years contract
Kopecky a third liner, again 20-30 points, get 3.5M$

Sorry, but I much prefer to pay 1M$ more and get a relevant player. Cole can have an impact and he's exactly what the doctor ordered for the Canadiens: size, leadership, and won a Cup.

Plus, he's the PERFECT role model for Pacioretty: both are american power forwards, and Cole came back successfuly from a major injury to the neck, just like Pacioretty.

People overact now cause it's the fun thing to do, especially because it's fun to hate the Canadiens, but if Cole went to Philadelphia or Boston at the same salary, all we would heard is how Eastern team are getting bigger and the Canadiens softer.

Suck it, Cole is an excellent addition to the Habs: team had money, they used it to fill a need while grabbing one of the best players available.

You sure you want to go wit that?
For real, and some teams fans don't understand their market isn't a fishbowl with media distractions and problems, high taxes, etc.

We need to overpay to get quality 60pt power forward type guys like Cole. It's just the way it is. As does NYR for having such a high cost of living. What do you think Sather overpaid all those players because he was high on LSD?

This is a steal for the habs. He's 3.5 mil for Carolina imo, 4 mil on the open market, 4.5 mil to a team less favorable like us due to the reasons mentioned above. FLA may have given him 5.

A tad bit overpaid, but HEY we've got the cash and we got a good complementary player for Pleky.. I'm disgusted at Hamrlik though. Subban better hit him HARD when we play the Caps.

Was skeptical of this signing at first and critical of PF before this, but I have to say, I'm pretty impressed. He was likely one of the most sought after guys and we landed him. Albeit a bit of an overpayment, but compared to upshall ect, not really and I don't think we could get a better fit other than Jagr.

I'm still concerned we don't have someone to eat the minutes of Roman Hamrlik. We another dman imo.

I still want one more top 6 forward!

Cammy--Pleky--Gionta
Patches---DD---Cole
AK---Eller---Gagne!!
Moen---White--- TBD

One more secondary scorer who really give us some scoring depth!

I've got two words for ya

All the Gauthier haters have what they think right now is "ammo" but I guarantee after half a season it will turn into crow stew.

I have a problem of his work attitude playing outside of Carolina.
For me sure 50 pointers, no upside no downside, are not worth 4+. More like 3. Look at Jussi Jokinen.

Carolina GM on Erik Cole's departure: "There is a void there. Erik is a special talent in the way he skates."

This is the correct way to look at this signing.

Jokinen deal was a home discount and a bargain. Look at Michael Ryder, Joel Ward, Kopecky and get real.

Powerforwards like him don't get worse with age... he has no finesse to his game. He has a shot, hits and drives the net. The only thing that will go is his speed but he wont lose it drastically by age 36

Real happy with this. Just the type of player we needed. Bit of an overpayment but that's almost to be expected. Biggest worry is that he stays healthy.

I think that caps off a great Canada Day for the Habs. Good job PG. Our forward group is good to go. We now have 2 power forwards (2 more than they have ever had over the past 15 years). Habs Defense is going to be great and, of course I'm happy with a top goaltender in Carey Price.

I think that's it for the Habs. Let's roll with it.

Go Habs Go!

Im not sure about that signing... The guy had some serious injuries issue, he is already 32 playing a PF type of game, Im worry his play decrease before the contract ends..

So we are stick with Gomez for another 3 years.. I doubt we can win the cup with the center line we have..
