Retired Paul Kariya in his current condition would've been better, lol.

For a 'genius' GM, Gillis sure dropped the ball today. He'll have to settle for scraps yet again.

Sturm? Lol!

wat

Seriously though, Gillis dropped the ball because he didn't have a knee-jerk reaction and sign some mediocre player to an outrageous contract?

There is the top 6 forward Gillis said he was going to get...for their AHL team.

Maybe the wolves solgan next year can be "win it for Andrew"

Because it's a signing for the Wolves. They're trying to attract top notch AHL talent to play there.

I think a condition of the Chicago affiliation was that gillis would get prime ahl talent for the wolves and the wolves wouldn't shut out prospects. Sounds reasonable given this signing and mancari's.

Yes. It's not that uncommon. Last year we signed Joel Perrault: http://www.capgeek.com/players/display.php?id=1139 (although he got 7 games on the 4th line when the injury situation was really bad)

The Canucks do this every year since Gillis came in. With the one way contract nobody will want him on waivers so he'll be helping take the pressure off our prospects and therefore help develop them down in Chicago.

1-way just means he gets paid the $525K regardless of if he's playing in the AHL or NHL.

In other words he was signed for the Wolves and is being paid handsomely in return because the Canucks have deep pockets.

I don't know how TO draws that Gillis "dropped the ball" today, though. With the contracts going around he seems to be his patient self and I agree with it.

We made it one win from a cup, minor adjustments are what we need mostly.

I also think he'll be saving cap space for the trade deadline where he'll really make a push for that second line player (this is where Cory Schneider could be moved, MAYBE Hodgson but I doubt it since Shirokov bolted.)

Lapierre

As it's already been stated, this ain't for the big club. Canucks have been handing out one-ways like candy since Gillis took the reigns.

I wonder if he gets a shot on the big club? My boss is a huge Vancouver Canucks fan and Ebbett is one of his best friends - I'm sure he's happy tonight.

At least Ebbett has some sortof skill. Bolduc is just about as useless as it gets. I can't believe a supposed presidents trophy team could ever dress Bolduc. But then Rome and Glass were there too. Did they merely lock up all the useless players out there and win the presidents by default?

I don't think people realize why Gillis isn't going out and siging outrageous contracts...

We were one win away. Yes we lost Ehrhoff, but Gillis likes to hve wiggle room and cap space. He will negotiate with players and try to get the best deal instead of just giving mediocore players 4.5 million a year.

The Canucks are bathing in money. They don't care about paying 1 way salary, they want some decent AHL players to play with the prospects in Chicago.
