Why not have Moore as the 7th dman and have Braun have a full year in the AHL? It definitely won't hurt.

I was scared when entering this topic, but if it really is 1 million for 1 year then this deal is great.

Great deal for Vandy. Solid bottom pairing guy with a physical game and stands up for teammates.

Great signing if it's $1m. He may end up being the #7 if Braun or Moore step things up this season, but he's the veteran, physical, stay-at-home insurance guy the Sharks need on the blueline.

Vandermeer was traded by Chicago to Philadelphia for Ben Eager. Eager signed in Edmonton and we signed Vandermeer from there. Coincidence.... yes, it is. Those two events have nothing to do with each other.

DW convinced a bottom-pairing d-man who made 2.3 mill last year to take 1 mill? What alternate universe is this?

Oilers fan here, Jim Vandermeer actually played very well in the second half of the season. He is a 5/6 defencemen and can make those odd good plays offensively and is good defensively. He was terrible in the beginning but after being paired with Whitney, he just completely changed his game up. Even after Whitney went down, Vandermeer played well. Even after his injury he played well. Keep him as a 5th/6th defencemen and you should be good. Also, just wondering, what does your D look like now with Vandermeer?

Well our D is solid even with an injury. Now we need the forwards...

Vlasic - Burns
Murray - Boyle
Vandameer - Demers

Extremely balanced basically.

I've seen Moore on a lot of capgeek scenarios as the #7 dman and I thought that was unacceptable. He showed no sign of being ready for that roll from what I saw last year. Now we have braun/vandemeer as the 6/7 - awesome!

Great signing. Especially since just about every damn signing today was obscene!

I don't know with Wallin, but this is just more evidence that DW had to pay Huskins 1.7 since other teams were making competitive offers.

Not quite sure what the pairings will be, but here's a guess:

Murray-Boyle
Vlasic-Burns
Vandermeer-Demers
Braun/Moore

Wow even more surprising now knowing that he made 2.3m last season and DW signed him for 1m. If it was last season, it would have probably been 3m.

Great signing to be honest. Doug Wilson really is stepping up his game this offseason.
