I don't understand why people are saying we should still be signing free agents. Where exactly are they going to play? Don't we already have enough forwards and defencemen? We have 12 forwards and 7 defencemen. (including Gorges). This is why I couldn't understand why they even offered Hamrlik a contract. If management feels we need another defenceman, why not just re-sign Sopel or Mara? They would be a 7th defenceman anyway. No sense signing guys if they aren't gonna play every night.
All our guys are NHL ready. Who's gonna sit the bench?

If you move Weber to forward, that's 13 and 6. Besides, I still think Enqvist will get a good shot as our checking centre and Palushaj will get a good look.

So explain to me where do we fit more players in the lineup?

Ah well, predictable. You'd think UFAs would learn, but they do have Richards' old coach.

Let's hope the money is ridiculous.

Rangers would have been my choice were I him .. they need a #1 center, they also need a leader and he won a cup with Torts

The arena will be filled, but he can walk the streets without being recognized and his family won't be bothered ...

i wonder if seeing the treatement the rangers had for other wade might effect his choice a little.

I mean this is an invented scenarion of course, but can you imagine if crosby would go on free agency and had an interest in new york. Whenever there is a new flavor of the year the rangers are going to be buyers and every year Richaards is gooing to have to wonder how he will be effected. His contract better have NMC and a NTC if he wants to go new york even at the cost of less money.

9 years at 6.5. This is going to be a decent deal for 3 to 5 years, then...

I was thinking the same. Did the NHL not have a lock out for this?

I can't help but feel Richards wanted the Rangers from the beginning.

Either way, it'll be a nice contract for the first few years - by the end, they'll be sick of him. Glad we didn't sign him for 9 years. People are freaking out about Erik Cole for 4 years (until he's 36). Mr. Richards is signed until he's 40.

Probably. Toronto certainly never had a shot. I do wonder what Montreal's offer was.

This makes Connolly the top center on the market.

NYR is gonna buy him out near the end of the contract like all the other atrocious contracts they handed out.

A full roster is 22-23 players usually. Teams carry 7-8 D and 13-14 forwards. With injuries, you need depth. There's easily room for another forward. Enqvist and Palushaj are needed depth in Hamilton since a team will always call up a few players during the year due to injuries. If these 2 guys are on the opening roster, ther's not much to call up during the season.

No, he will likely retire before the end of this contract or be traded to a team needing to fill cap space (unless he has NMC) when he is no longer usefull to Rags. This is how contracts are signed with elite players now. It doesn't happen in Montreal because we do not have elite players

It really is a steal by the Rags though. 6.5 for brad is amazing. And he can just retire or bury him in the minors or buy him out at the end. Wow.

Exactly.

Who cares about the number of years, it will never be honored due to retirement or trade.

Amazing deal for NYR.
