2 ways i'm convincing myself this is good for us:

1. well, the tortoise did beat the hare that one time.
2. we will now have Zeus and Thor on the same team.

Meh signing. Slightly overpayment IMO.

Imagine Clowe-Handzus-Heater..... SLOOOWEST line in hockey by far

Great pick up! Salary is very and term are good for a guy who will knock Patty, Pavs, JT and Heatley all down the PK ladder.

Can put up 30-40 points and win important face offs. He may have lost a step but it didn't seem to bother him too much in LA last season as he led their forwards in PK time.

Rather have this than the Ward 4yr contract or Bergenheim 4yr contract.

About 500K to a million too much, but Handzus is good pickup. If he plays with Mitchell/McGinn, his lack of speed shouldn't be an issue.

Not sure how I feel about this, I'll be happy if our PK% increases and he puts up 35-40pts.

You may be on to something there. He did stand out in the F/O and boards against us in Round 1.

I do think we're underrating him here because of his speed. He is a very skilled, big dude.

But still... get theee to the rink with Heatley. There's some skating drills to work on.

Quoted for the ****ing truth!

A lot of people on here were co-signing going after Fernando Pisani v 2.0 and 2.1.

I love the way Handzus plays and there's no doubt he'll help the Sharks in more than a few ways. I am a little worried about the cap hit and the term.

Our lines are sooo stacked. 2 centers on each line (Mitchell can play C right?).

Mitchell-Handzus-Mcginn

Yep. I was just telling Tomahawk214 the same thing. He was tough on the Sharks, especially in the 3rd period (When the Sharks usually fall apart).

This is a very good pick up at a slightly steep price. The Sharks still have plenty of room to give Couture and Burns raises next year, and Handzuss should fill some big holes that were left on the bottom lines.

Marleau-Thornton-Heatley
Clowe-Pavelski-Coututre
Mitchell-Handzuss-McGinn
xxxx-Desjardins-xxxx

Vlassic-Burns
Murray-Boyle
Vanderveer-Demers

I'm likiing this line up a lot so far. Just need to round it out with a couple more 4th liners and we should make a good run next year.

This could turn out to be a great signing for SJ...of course it could also turn out to be a train wreck (I think it will be a decent signing)

I think its a slight overpayment, but that makes up for the D-discount we got earlier.

Something tells me he'll be a good pickup, give our bottom lines something to work off of for a change.

I like it, I had him on my short list of guys still available lol.

Wellwood got pushed around too much in the playoffs. Handzus has size, scores, works his ass off and can play top 6 if anyone gets hurt too. Not impressed by his faceoff % in the regular season, at 40% he only beats desjardins out of our centers lol, slightly worse than patty. But that wasn't a typical season for him he's had 50%+ in seasons past and I'm sure he can get to 50% with time. One game in the playoffs he was 1-14 lol, jumbo pretty much owned him in the circle. But the rest of the series he wasn't bad, never below 50%.

Speed wasn't our 3rd line's issue last season. Would you call torres or higgins speedy? No they outhit, outworked, and outsized our 3rd line. For some reason it seems like our team just doesn't like to work hard at times, a big reason a team like LA took us to 6 games despite missing their top forward(kopitar). Handzus was a big part of that strong work along the boards.

Don't particularly like this move. He was a 30 point player with top six playing time. If we're going with a shutdown 3rd line, that's fine but I don't think the Sharks have the kind of personnel to support it well. Mitchell isn't that good at it. None of McGinn, Desjardins, McLaren, and the other Worcester boys are that good at it. They will need more to support this kind of move and the price tag is not that good. They would have been better suited to re-sign Malhotra last year if this is the direction they wanted to go.

This right here. We should have matched Vancouver's offer to Malhotra if we were going to pay $2.5m for a 3rd line center.

I understand the signing, but we could have done better thats all.

You can't have speed and size I guess. Gotta pick just one.

Thats a joke right? Both of them have a great set of wheels., Im thinking Higgins will also be signed, and that may be it.

Zus is good at faceoffs but he's not great. Stoll was definitely the best faceoff guy we had last year and then Zus was number two. He took all the important defensive faceoffs in our zone to the left of Quick. While Zus is slow as hell, he is a great PKer, will block shots, is not USELESS offensively, and is actually VERY good in the shootout. He doesn't make mistakes so you guys should be happy. Good signing sad to say.

Hindsight is 20/20. As things are, I'd rather have Zeus than Manny anyways.

When did $2.5mil become overpayment for a 3rd line center? He's matched (out proeduced) Malhotra in points and is just as good on the PK, only difference is skating ability.
