He's played some center, including with the national team, but has played more RW this season.

Aside from maybe Brendan Gaunce, it's looking like the top-end forwards this year are pretty much all European. If your plan is to go North American regardless, it's way more likely to be a defenseman it seems.

So is Galchenyuk the most likely pick with the earlier of the two firsts?

Depends how far he falls due to injury.

We don't need another Defensive prospect. If anything get it with OUR 1st pick.

Dumba's a stud that's all there is to.

I don't know if your american but this isn't the NFL, in the NHL you choose BPA

And if we don't need D-men prospects you're not going to like this draft it's full of them.

I don't mind a top end Dman with COL's pick, but I prefer Murray. Though, in general I would like to take a big C.

Big C would be nice.

In reguards to Murray vs. Dumba, Dumbas just special he really has no weakness'. It's almost scary how strong he is on his skates and he's probably the most physical D-man I've seen since I started watch the Dub. He's like a mini Drew Doughty versatility wise

Where's Dumba at size-wise? I've seen him listed as small as 5'11" 166lbs. Honestly, that is my biggest question with him.

6'00'' 175lbs. It's definitely on the smaller side I wouldn't doubt him being 185lbs. by the start of next year though. For some players its not so much about how much you weigh/how tall you are, more how sturdy you are on your skates and your balance. Dumbas definitely one of them again there's not many players I've seen that strong in that aspect. His former teammate Nugent-Hopkins is like that not to the same extent though

There may not be a choice to do otherwise. There are supposed to be a lot of quality D in this draft. More so than forwards anyway so taking one is no big deal with either pick.

I'd expect that GMGM will be on the phone to whoever is picking in the top 2-3 to see what it'd take to move up pending on what our picks are.

Its been said many times in this thread...BPA. My personal pref would be a Center prospect or a dman despite the longer dev curve. Dumba rocks, imho. Imagine having Dumba and Orlov anchoring the O side of the D.... Grigorenko as a big center would be totally sweet.

I am anxious to see where the two picks end up but I'm also anxious to see how GMGM plays this out. Use them. Trade up. etc. The possibilities are numerous. I think the fall back position is BPA of course. As of tonight, we have the 6th and 14th.

Trade ups draft-wise don't seem to happen too much unless it is later in the draft from my on the fly historical perspective/old person view, heh. Which ever pick is in play based on which is lower I'm sure it will be in play on the trade deadline. 1st round picks 20 or lower tend to be not in play.

I think a C like Galchenyuk or Grigorenko is a much bigger need than a D.
Hell, i'd rather take another Swede in Forsberg at LW.

But if we do, we'd probably pick a D for OUR 1st pick, seeing how this draft is defensive heavy.
Ebert's been falling.

Since forwards Dev faster than Dmen there is the tendancy to favor towards forwards in the draft, IMO. I find this in myself.

I'm more a fan of Murray than Dumba for the Caps. Hockey sense and work ethic versus the risk-taking playmaker. Murray's got some Lidstrom-like qualities in his game, whereas Dumba is more of a Subban type.

I'd be thrilled to have Murray and Alzner anchoring the left side of the defense for the next decade.

Dunbar was cut from Canada's WJC team. Can't help his stock.

Plenty of draft-eligibles don't make Team Canada. Seguin in his draft year, for example. Getting cut not just before Murray but also Ceci is a little more damning but not overly so, esp. if teams think they can calm down his game. He's similar in that regard to Subban as well, albeit less of an instigator. The Caps lack his physicality from the back-end aside from maybe Orlov so it's a decent fit IMO, though he doesn't have ideal shutdown size and it would maybe force someone like Orlov to LD.

There's a lot to like in the top 15 range. Not just centers and D but a few Swedish wingers in Forsberg, Aberg & Collberg. There's a chance all three could suit up for the WJC.

Early look at players in the WJC mix:

Russia: Yakupov, Grigorenko
Sweden: Forsberg, Aberg, Collberg
Canada: Murray, Ceci, Di Guiseppe
USA: Trouba
Czech Rep.: Faksa, Frk, Hertl
Latvia: Girgensons
Finland: Maatta, Pokka

The Czechs actually have some decent forwards to evaluate. Been a while since Voracek.
