I personally think that there's a decent chance that Col will be lower and in the 5-7 range. And very likely in the 7-10 range.
They are at 9 now with most games played. All current teams below them except Oil and Clb are in play (GO BRUCE!!). In addition given that they are a rebuilding team still and lack a 1st, they may opt to sell Hejduk, McClement, and O'Brien for a decent return. I don't see Calgary or Minn selling.
Col has 12 of 27 remaining games vs non-playoff teams (3 are vs Clb).
edit: forgot Giggy. Thanks NBTW. Couldn't remember if he was UFA. I like McClement and someone I'd like to see on the caps... throw a 2nd at if we were "going for it".

Yep, they also have 15 of their last 27 on the road. And last season, they won 7 games after February 1st.
Let's hope someone throws a first at them (maybe Chicago?) for Giguere.
Is Galchenyuk everyones "ideal" option. Not counting Yakupov/Grigorenko.
I'd take Murray, Forsberg, or Dumba over him, if all were available.
I think Galchenyuk is kind of the nexus between upside and likely pick range. If we're picking at 9 (where Colorado's pick would be right now), there's basically no chance that any of Yakupov, Grigorenko, Murray, Dumba, or Forsberg are available, whereas there's a very real possibility Galchenyuk would be.
Personally, I'm hoping for an upside pick with Colorado's, and a ton of grit (Sissons might fit the bill) with our own pick, assuming we keep both.

They won't be available though, so yes Galchenyuk is my ideal pick. And it would would be a lot less to move up a bit to get him if we needed to.
After that, Collberg, Gaunce.

Uh, that's basically what I said in the second sentence of my post.
The Caps could very well be in a position to land one of them, as early as next weekend. There are 7 teams within 7 points of catching Colorado in the standings, and all but Montreal and Carolina have 2 games in hand.
Does gaunce have more junior scoring than Gordon? I don't like the idea of set third liners that high.
Can check now. Will after my meeting if no one responds
Gordon (assuming you're talking about Boyd) had 22 goals and 51 points in 66 games his pre-draft season.
Gaunce has 22 goals and 47 points in 49 games thus far this year.
For perspective, the top 4 scorers in the WHL Gordon's pre-draft season had 1.48, 1.47, 1.49, and 1.41 points/game. The top 4 scorers in the OHL this year have 1.625, 1.74, 1.39, and 1.28. That doesn't include Yakupov, who's at 1.896.

I have mixed feelings on Galchenyuk. Picking a player coming off that significant an injury is frightening enough, but combine it with the Yakupov factor and it's even worse. We've seen plenty of these "second fiddle" guys become mediocre or straight up bust in the NHL. Sam Gagner, Marek Zagrapan, Nick Foligno, Jakub Klepis, etc.
What's wrong with Nick Foligno? I'm a big fan. I'd be perfectly happy if we ended with a guy like that with the 28th pick. Seems to me it's looking more and more like Benoit Pouliot was his second fiddle.

I wouldn't consider Gagner or Foligno a bust. Angelo Esposito comes to mind when it comes to second fiddles.

They both fall into the mediocre half of that sentence. Neither have found a way to stick in the top 6 of struggling teams. Though I suppose Foligno isn't really that bad for a player picked 28th. I'd just hope we'd get a higher upside player than him from an early 1st.
I kinda lumped Esposito as an injury bust in my mind, but the Radulov effect can't be ignored either.
Teravainen led the just completed U18 5 Nations Tournament (SWE, FIN, RUS, USA & CZE) in scoring with 6+2 in four games. Collberg was second with 2+5 in as many games for first place Sweden.
Just observing the current standings and was curious as to what the feel is on the likelihood that if your 2 first rounders were to remain at 12 & 14, would they be packaged up to move up?
How far up could those two picks realistically get you? What is the lowest range your fan base would be okay with? ie:4 - 7????
While it might be wise for the Oilers to cash in and grab 2 good defensemen, I don't believe they will pass up on Murray.
If there's a team that is looking to move down, and the price isn't unrealistic, I think they could.
I don't think it's logical that they want to move up (though if a player slips to 7 or 8, you never know) because I do feel they need two good players out of this draft (if not more from the rounds past the first).
FWIW I picked up Reinhart/Collberg @ 12/14 in a mock draft. Girgensons went 13th so I could have played it Girgensons @ 12 and one of Ceci/Reinhart most likely but ZG seems like a bit of a project, at least as a center. Reinhart/Collberg seem like the sort of fast-track types the Caps tend to target early.
