Looking at the Caps pool of young players going forward, what are the theoretical holes in the organization? I see a lot of center depth in the future (Eakin, Mojo developing, Backstrom). Maybe a north american winger?

W, D, in that order. The 2012 Draft is top loaded with just those positions.
The top two Russians are legit. Shades of the Ovy/Malkin draft.
If the Av's stay healthy and push the pick back then I could see them taking Mikhail Grigorenko.
Quote:
However, Grigorenko isn't really committed to the NHL just yet. "I haven't really thought about the NHL yet. My main thought for now is to get into a MHL team and then to the KHL. I'm thinking about this only," said Grigorenko in an interview with Alessandro Seren Rosso of RussianHockeyFans.com.
Don't know about his actual game except for now he seems to be projected as the 4th best player in the 2012 draft and he's Russian. So basically if the Caps get pushed back to the middle of the first they could easily get a value pick like Grigorenko. Ironically he also shares the same agent as Kuzy.
Any thought of the caps possibly moving both first rounders to land an elite player? A shea weber or something. Or someone who would be available at the deadline or next year
Yeah, I'm going to need you to tank Colorado, because I do want. Thanks in advance.
Galchenyuk has Dany heatley written all over him. (not in a bad way)
IMO he's got a lot of the same shooting repertoire. Always either looking to sneak in the backdoor slapper from the circle/tap in down low or cut right down the middle for the one timer.

Wow...that kid looks like a fantastic talent.

Agreed. I want the center. So long bodied and skillful. But the film ive seen of top 5 players so far from the list langway posted is amazing.
As the season progresses we'll get a better sense of how this will shake out. There is more to watch than just how well the Avs season is going and where they'll end up. These extra 2 picks could play many different ways. Trade bait at the dead line to shore up a weakness. Use them to restock. The intriguing one is a rebuilding team might be open to multiple picks in a deep draft as opposed to one higher. Lots of possibilities that we'll speak of ad naseum I'm sure.
I'm at crossroads with this pick. On one hand I'd love a top selection in the next draft, but on the other I don't want Varly to fail with his new team nor to spend 50+ games on the bench. And even if Avs finish in the middle we won't lose much, the draft is going to be deep. Btw, since I'm Latvian, I'd be happy if we draft Girgensons
@CapitalsCup2012: He looks like the goods. I tried to fight the temptation to advance (read:youtube) scout a few of these kids so far ahead of the draft and without any idea where we would be picking, but like the inveterate I am, I failed.
I heard the Hossa comparisons about that kid before watching his highlight tape, so my expectations were pretty high, and he didn't disappoint. His size/speed/skill combination looks outstanding, and what's more, he appears to relish going to the net. I'm officially prospect smitten.
Yakupov obviously looks studly too, but I really, really like what this kid appears to bring in his portfolio.

Deadly accurate as well.
From an offensive perspective, he certainly does look Heatley-esque. Very good comparison.
A friend on mine that's actually seen him play whole games says that he's very solid defensively too.

Grigorenko, for anyone who hasn't seen him. I'm not going to post youtubes of every top prospect, but I just wanted to give video evidence to support HSHS' position in the subject. Stud.
