Nope he is not a huge scorer and really for 4 years at 4.5 just doesnt make since for where this team is going.

Now 4 years ago then maybe but still not at 4.5.

He only plays well for carolina. Mark my words - they'll get him back at half-price after he's on waivers. good deal for them !!

With Alfredsson aging I`m not sure we have a guy like that who can play in the top six and make other players look bad if they are not giving it there all.

Cole has been good for that.
I guess that is why the Oilers got rid of him so quickly, Staal wasn't around to make Cole's work ethic look so good.

Cole had a good year, the first one since 06/07. The contract is definitely too long and for too many dollars, glad Montreal got him and not the Sens.

Pay Cole 4.5 per for the next 4 years?

Might as well kept Fisher who is a considerably better player

In 08-09 when Cole was on the Oilers Staal did the following
65GP 28G 50Pts

After Cole returned Staal went off
17GP 12G 25Pts

And has since had two pretty solid years.

On the Oilers he was still on pace to put up 20G despite playing with nobodies... his work ethic is contagious with great players on his line.

So he wouldn't be a good fit on the wing in a sens uniform? Money aside I was saying that Cole would have been good for our second line. I too think his contract is too high but he is still a type of player we need at least for the short term or until we can get 2nd line play out of our prospects/rookies.

I think he would have been a solid pick up at the right price.

The contract he got isn't one I would have liked for the Senators, but he's still a very good player.

Yes but Mtl's offer is retardedly higher than anything I would've offered Cole....

I would have offered a 2 year, 7.5M$ contract.

He would have rejected it and gone to the Habs.
I wouldn't have missed any sleep over it.

Cole was injured for 3 straight months during 09-10, Staal did the following:

29-17-20-37

In Edmonton, Cole's 21 goal and 35 point pace would have been much lower than his 3 previous seasons (avg of 82-33-36-69). He finished his last 21 games with the Oilers with a 21-5-2-7 line.

Cole is a limited talent, complimentary player and Eric Staal is the All-Star who carried him. Not the other way around by any means.

Some guys are just meant to play for certain teams, and seem to do better there. Trevor linden comes to mind. OK with Montreal, awful with the Islanders, put him back in the Canucks uniform and BAM instantly a better hockey player.
