If the Leafs were offering $8m for 6 years, you have a $48m contract. The first 6 years on the Rangers deal is probably over $50m.
Thats what Kypreos reported. He Rangers were third in terms of monetary deals. Only 3 or 4 teams remained in the hunt as of last night, so if its only 3 then yes the Rangers offer was less then the leafs.

The deal is perfect. Love it. I honestly thought all along this guy was gonna go for every last dollar. And in terms of money making ability Toronto would have been the spot.
I believer there is enough talent around him to put up multiple 100pt seasons for us.

If it wasn't the leafs it was the other teams. He took less money whether it was Calgary, Leafs, Kings to play for the Rangers.

I read that article. You notice that he doesn't actually say how much he thinks the Rangers improved?

Tremendous news, I can remember watching Richards play against us last year and just being floored by his speed and puck control. Kudos to Glen Sather, and the entire organization, for getting this done without breaking the bank (cap).

EDIT: and it turns out it's actually $6.33 AAV?!?!?! That's pretty much down at what I had as the no-brainer level. Go jump in a lake, Brooksie.
As I recall Brooks said the Rangers shouldn't give BR more than a 6.5 cap hit...you play by the rules established and what the market is dictating. I've been critical of Sathers UFA signings but he hit a HOME RUN on this one and anyone *****ing about this deal really can't be pleased by anything. Sather went as high as he felt the value was for BR and got his guy when other teams offered more money...Jesus Christ a guy actually took less money to wear a Blueshirt, last 2 guys I remember doing that are Shanahan and TGO.

Yes, but that basically is all covered by the 10% you're allowed to go over the cap in the summer.

I agree with most of it...

But are the Rangers a Stanley Cup contender? They are coming off a first-round loss to the Washington Capitals and a season where the Rangers finished 18th in the League in points with 93 points. There's no doubting the Rangers have a strong, young core with a lot of promise and the addition of Richards makes them better, but whether this move makes them contenders in the East remains to be seen.

It wasn't so much scoring that was a problem for the Rangers last season; instead, it was finding consistent scoring. There were times when the Rangers would explode for five, six or seven goals in a game. But more often than not, they struggled to score three goals in a game, putting a lot of pressure on Henrik Lundqvist to be perfect.

Once the Rangers figure out who will stay and who will leave, they should see a marked improvement in their power play with Richards. He has 69 power-play assists the past two seasons, finishing in a tie for 14th in the category last season and second two seasons ago. The Rangers have a finisher in Marian Gaborik, but they've been aching for a player like Richards, who has the vision and passing skills that were sorely lacking during power-play situations.

Eh, I think there's a lot of ambiguity about "cap hit" and "salary"

The fact that his contract has a lower cap hit isn't the same as taking less money.

Now on the reported 9 year $64m deal Calgary offered... yes, Richards definitely took less than that. And it is a great story that he wasn't 100% about the $$.

He went on vacation with Richards and Voros a couple of weeks ago, and their good friends so he probably talked up NY to Brad on vacation.

Probably gave one hell of a sales pitch too.

Great deal!

Can't wait for this upcoming season.

I also feel bad for the team who is going to offer Connolly a multi year deal.

Now THAT is Drury 2.0

4 years from now, everyone will be like, why didn't it work...what went wrong..

I wonder who gets a contract offer or traded away now, maybe Sauer, maybe Dubi, maybe Boyle, maybe AA...but who gives a ****...we got our overpaid "superstar".

I wonder how much drive he will have when he is 35 and has collected 40 million from us...maybe he can open up a pizza shop or a fancy resturant...welcome to NYC.

Prove me wrong.
The guy actually stuck to his word and took LESS MONEY to play for the Rangers.

Why is someone going to get traded? Have you even looked at the available cap space? NYR have enough to sign all their RFA's and still have a cushion of about 3.5 million.

It was widely reported we had less on the table on top of the hard numbers coming out.

There is a never ending flow of hockey pundits who do not take the Rangers seriously.
He most likely had an article pre written on how the team screwed up by not signing him.

I'm of the opinion that our Stanley Cup window opens not this year, but the year after.
BR and Gabby still producing in the peak years.
Improvement by our young core as they become young vets moving into their prime years.
Henrik: elite goalie.
Reinforced by Kreider, Thomas, perhaps McIlrath and Miller
Perhaps another piece or two added.
