Now THAT is Drury 2.0
Dont insult Drury like that.
Connolly is Holik 2.0
Toronto will sign him and the fans will gush that he is a steal.

The point I was making that the Rangers giving him a contract worth $6.5m on average over 9 years is not actually less money than the Leafs offering a contract worth $8m over 6 years. Richards is probably making more money over the first 6 years of the Rangers deal. I wasn't talking about the other teams offers.

Where are you missing my point?

9 year may be a lot, but this signing was a must. Welcome to NY Brad Richards!!! Did he get a NTC or anything? Article I read didn't mention it, so i'd assume not.

I'm not missing anything. Richards could have made more money elsewhere but choose the Rangers. That's a fact. Whether it was the Leafs, Kings, or Calgary doesn't matter.

OK, I guess you just had me confused by responding to a quote about the Leafs. I agree it doesn't matter.

We now have an abundance of centers. We need to get some sort of package together and trade it for a legit 1st line winger.

Centers on the roster now:

Richards
Dubinsky
Anisimov
Stepan
Boyle
Rupp
Christensen
Prospal - if brought back

...

Richards line 1, Anisimov line 2, Stepan line 3...

Man, the Rangers official website is pretty slow with this signing lol. You would think it would be up as the headline by now...

We got our man, just like we always seem to do. And Sather looked past his hatred of long term contracts, I have died and went to heaven

I think BR is going to play at his elite level well in to this contract

A lot of them are going to be playing on the wing, and Dubi is a LW now

To those few people who question this signing based on the idea that we will be stuck with a huge contract and an over-the-hill forward in five years: understand that we have a good window here in the next half decade with an elite goalie, a good young nucleus both upfront and on D to really make some good runs at the Cup. Richards certainly doesn't make us a favorite, but he fills some major holes in our lineup that supercede anything that may happen down the road. If Richards helps us win a Cup in the next four years, it doesn't matter how much and for how long we owe him.

The contract hasn't been signed yet or at least hasn't been entered into the registry...

Prospal won't be brought back. Christensen won't play. Dubinsky is a LW. That leaves us with only 5 centers and I think either one of Boyle or Rupp can play wing on the 4th line just fine. We have no issue.

Dubi is more suited to wing. Rupp can easily play wing. EC has very little, if any value. Prospal is unsigned.

So that leaves us with Richards/Anisimov/Stepan/Boyle. Don't see the need to move anyone really. Plus, what's wrong with having a couple wingers (Dubinsky/Rupp) who can slide over to take a faceoff if needed, or even more importantly to fill in during an injury? I agree that we could use a 1st line LW...and we should have some cash to work with. But we're not so deep at center that we should be looking to move some of them for the sake of moving them.

Well that's a big part of the problem we have to find consistent scoring. Most centers are not consistent goal scorers.

Too many grinders and heart and not enough talent on this team. We need a good balance of both.

Just happened though. The team would never announce before the NHL approved the deal.
