Caps are gonna be hard to beat next season. Both them and Philly went out and did what they needed, only thing is the Caps kept the core of their team intact while doing so. Philly had to get rid of 2 major pieces to obtain the goalie they wanted.
He'd want 5 mil+ here. That deal is clearly a huge discount in order to have a chance at the cup.
Kipper already explained what happened here. Colorado told Vokoun to wait because they were going to make a big offer on him. Then they make the trade with Washington and basically tell Vokoun a hour into free agency that they now not making an offer. By that time Coyotes had already signed Mike Smith and Vokoun had no offers left other then the one Washington made. He had no choice but to sign really. Probably fired his agent for sure.

Washington must be thrilled that they were essentially able to exchange Varlamov for Vokoun and two high picks, especially for the unbelievable value of Vokoun's deal.
Sure wish something like this had fallen into the Leafs' lap the year they traded for Toskala.

Even more amazing is that they probably have a better future now with the return from the Avs.
This said, I don't think that pick will be in the top 5, but rather in the 10-20 bracket.
