How bout we just go into the season with what we have and see how things go. Let our young guys develop and if we happen to fall on our face, we get a shot at Nail.
Just the last UFA chance. I think Connolly could in fact provide a solid 1st line C role for us, and work well with Kessel.
Kinda of sad to read this, when Leafs fans are banking on a multiple concussed C that when healthy isn't a 1st line C. Leafs fans gotta wake up. The search for a number 1 center has been ongoing since Sundin left. This was the closest and best chance the Leafs had. What other opportunities are out there without depleting the system?
If we do nothing (I expect this), then we won't be bad enough for a lottery pick in the next few years. We'll get a little better at most, maybe scrape into the playoffs one of the next couple years, but things won't be *good*.
If we go for broke and get stamkos, we either lose 4 1st round picks, or a lot of the assets that we would need to help us get over the top.
I think we will end up with nothing major. If we were to get a guy like stamkos somehow, it would also help draw other players here. Now we're seen as some potential, but mostly young guys without any chance of contending seriously. That probably hurt us in the richards thing, and it will continue to prevent us from drawing good free agents.

That's exactly what's wrong with the mentality of some fans here. It's ok to lose and miss the playoffs, right?
We All Take A Deep Breath And Hope Tml Management Has Another Trade To Pull Out Of Their Butts That Doesnt Cost Us Schenn Or Kulemin.. I Could Care Less About Anyone Else
Realistically, any deal for say Malkin is not going to be pulled off by Burke offering Grabo, Finger, and Komi for a top #1 C, you are asking for the impossible if Leafs can trade for a #1C without offering Kule, Schenn, Kadri, and draft picks.
Personally, I am extremely dissapointed that we didn't manage to address a single hole in FA thus far. We need a top line centre and some big upgrades in our bottom 6. None of which we could manage to get.
Even if we can swing a trade for a C; we'll be creating more holes to get said centre. There will just be too many holes for us to compete in the East.
Offersheet Stamkos to a 10M offer sheet and make Tampa sweat it out. OR similar to Kessel, reach a deal with the agent and inform Yzerman that he could trade him to us to avoid the offer sheet. But you should atleast call the agent and find out what would it take to get him signed (what doesn't Tampa Bay want to pay).
Richards signing with The Rangers was the last chance the Leafs had to acquire a #1C for the season. Where does Burke go from here?
A trade would be costly, after years of not having any prospects in the system does he bankrupt the franchise to get that number #1 C? Or does he sit tight and wait for Kadri or Colborne to develop?
Seems to me there isn't much out there, TB will match any offer sheet Leafs fwd to Stamkos, Connelly and Arnott are not the answer. The 2011-12 season looks challenging now that all the eastern teams are upgraded.
A high pick in a superb draft class is the only viable solution. Fact is the Leafs are exactly the team they were at the end of the 2010-11 season minus Brent and Giguere. Liles is a nice add but this was a minor move.
Look for a difficult season ahead, unless Burke mortages draft picks and prospects for immediate help.
Does you mean you think Connolly and Arnott would be as bad as Bozak?

There was only one #1 C in this poor free agent class. After seeing the ridiculous money being thrown out yesterday, I am glad we weren't as foolish. There are better ways to use up our cap space.
No thank you. I wouldn't give up Schenn unless it was for a top 5 centermen in the league, that is Schenn +++. Kadri is developing well. AND a first in a deep draft? NAW

I think you are over-evaluating what Schenn is worth. He's good, not great.
