Rangers Prospect Poll: #6

Now that the Brad Richards hoopla is over, it's time to go back to ranking our prospects. Dylan McIlrath won the tie-breaker round. Pavel Valentenko won the right to be added.

Don't forget to write-in who should be added in the next round. Also would be good to include a discussion/argument on why you voted for a particular prospect.

TOP PROSPECTS

1. LW Chris Kreider
2. D Ryan McDonagh
3. D Tim Erixon
4. RW Christian Thomas
5. D Dylan McIlrath

Dylan McIlrath
Defense
Born Apr 20 1992 -- Winnipeg, MAN
Height 6.05 -- Weight 215 -- Shoots R

2010-11 Moose Jaw Warriors WHL 62 5 18 23 153

"Dylan is obviously a physical kid. That's his No. 1 thing. But he can skate well, he makes a good first pass, he can shoot, and he has an intimidating presence. He is also a big shut down guy who plays a lot of minutes."
- Jeff Gorton

Voted for Zuccarello because of how close he is to being a top-6 forward. I consider his 23 points in 42 games (over 0.5 ppg) to be an excellent start to an NHL career. I fully expect him to increase on that next year, and hopefully hit 50 points.

Add Kundratek. Kundratek is an all-around blueliner and he's a right sider, which we actually need (the overload of blueliners is on the left side), so he should be playing for the Rangers at least part-time in 2011-12.

Fasth. The most potential of all of our prospects to be a significant offensive presence in our lineup after Thomas and Kreider. He's got a higher ceiling than anyone else.

Miller. Yogan.

Big write up by Leslie on Yogan in development camp. He and Pashnin got a lot of high marks. Yogan was hurt most of the last season but finished in Hartford where he did pretty well. Saying that Kundratek and Weise are both guys whose names should be coming up soon.

What is Hagelin's upside? Don't get me wrong, he has a great shot of making the NHL...but is he really a better prospect than Miller? I mean it seems as if Miller's floor is close to what Hagelin projects to, no?

Miller. Still have my doubts about MZA being a long-term NHLer. He'll still be next though.

Yup, I'd bet $2 he's out of the league long before Miller. Time will tell.

Miller's upside is higher than Hagelin, but, Hagelin is on the verge of playing professional hockey, and closer to being fully developed. In terms of upside, Miller is probably our right on par with Erixon, McIlrath and Thomas. But, he has a long way to go to fulfill that upside. Check back next year at this time.

Wow, can't believe 3 other people - including Sting and E-Train! - voted Fasth as early as I did. Agreed with your assessment. Miller next.

Add Kundratek. Then Yogan.

Voted Zuccarello.

Add Kundratek -- he almost never gets talked about (even when his name is mentioned, it's usually like "and we have Kundratek, too"), but he really is on the bubble of being an NHL player. This year's Sauer...?

I think this also shows how deep (finally) our pool has become. It used to be a 1st rounder jumped into the top 3 almost automatically. Now 1st rounder is fighting for a top 10 spot.
