Depends if Dean wants a 3rd line RW or if he's fine with Lewis/Richardson. Other than that 1,2, and 4 lines set, D is set, net is set....just need to sign those RFA's.
Wasn't pumped about Gagne, but 2 years at 7 is a good deal. Lets hope he can stay relatively healthy and doesn't miss too many big games. If not there's plenty of room for Parse to play himself onto the 2nd line.
He's entering the downside of his career. $3.5M for a .5 point per game player (which is what his next 2 years will project to be as his production begins to slow) is a lot. I'd rather of saved that $3.5M and used it on a better player acquired in a trade, but because we were able to get him in FA without giving up anything, I guess that will be ok. Just a bit disappointed we weren't able to acquire someone better. Oh well.
Trades don't work that way. You can't just call up another GM and say, "Hey I want your good LW who you're underpaying for $3.5 million, thanks", and its a done deal. This was a GREAT signing player and money wise
The fact that Scotty Upshall got the same amount for a longer term says it all.
Not to mention, this was the safer route to take. We know we're getting a pure left wing scorer that we have lacked for quite a while whereas Brad Richards, even though he is incredibly talented and well-experienced, would still be a question mark in our lineup. What if he just didn't work out as a left winger in this organization? we can't have 3 of our highest paid forwards be centers for atleast 5 years........ I like this signing alot.
