If Bruce can't win with this team, it'll be yet another creative way to reinvent pathetic. Wondering if there are trades forthcoming or they are just relying on Poti being on LTIR.
Theoretically you could make a case for Fedorov, couldn't you?

I actually think Federov is a good example of a star guy who wouldn't give Washington a discount. He was broke though, so its hard to blame him. Plus he already won the Stanley Cup, so he had less motivation. He was also past his prime, whereas Vokoun had the 8th best save percentage in the NHL last season. It was cool Feds wanted to stay with the Caps though and I thought it was good for the image of the franchise and definitely a step in the right direction.

I bet Holtby isnt very happy. George took the time yesterday to recall his stats to close out last spring, while assuring he was fine with the 2 kids next year and the entire lineup actually. 8-0-1 in his final 8 NHL games last year. George didnt go out of way to justify anyone else being on the roster.

If you are Neuvy, do you like the deal? I can see it going both ways.
I'm sure both Neuvirth and Holtby are disappointed but recognize that Vokoun is a one-year rental and that they're still in the Capitals' long-term plans. Holtby hasn't performed well in the AHL playoffs yet, and given his mental approach, I'm pretty sure that burns him, too. This deal takes the pressure off of both guys and lets them mature a bit more. And if this move angers them, let them use it as incentive to improve.

Besides, this ensures that Holtby will be working with Kolzig in Hershey. Given how long Kolzig took to get the Capitals' starting job, I'm pretty sure that he'll make sure that Holtby will be all right.

Sharks fan here.

The Caps were looking scary with the additions of Brouwer and Ward, but after signing Vokoun, you guys are stupid good, maybe the best team in the league on paper. You guys deserve a long playoff run, and believe me I know what it feels like when your team blows it. This is the Caps year to represent the East.

Sharks-Capitals Stanley Cup Final

So we're both going to get over our playoff demons the same year? I think if that happens the Universe is going to implode. The first Stanley Cup Final where two teams loose. Refs skating around with the cup saying "Bucking right." Good times

Pens fan here, everyone in the league knows this is just an incredible deal for you guys. Enjoy this steal of a 1 yr contract! Those are the types you need to get over the hump... although I hope that doesn't happen

If only they didn't have to deal with a language barrier. I guess they'll have to settle for a year of nods and smiles.

Even though I get it, I do have to ask, doesn't Neuvirth speak pretty good english anyway? He's been here a while.

This is him in 2007.

2009: Accent starts to disappear a little. Most "accents" are actually problems with pronunciation.

2011: Yeah I'd say his English is pretty good. It's funny though, there are stretches where you could believe he's lived in North America all his life and then there are parts where his Czech accent will start to surface.

Don't really have an issue with 52 and 28... you at least know they've got it in them to 'bring it', terribly frustrating, I know but 55................... was against his new contract before he even signed it.

I love Fedorov but 4M a year for a 4th line center and PK specialist was not a discount by any means.

- EdFrankovic: GMGM: our scouting staff had Vokoun in the top 10 goalies in the league.
- David_Getz: GMGM says Caps were approached by Vokoun's camp after Varlamov was dealt to COL.
- SkyKerstein: #Caps GMGM says that Vokoun's agent said he wanted to win right now, says his agent said he wanted to come here the last couple of seasons.

Fedorov was overrated by most people here, but "4th line center"...
