Cameron Gaunce is NHL ready.

Physical, very good defensively, can skate, and makes good outlet passes.

Gaunce - Barrie

Use Elliott for something decent.

Gaunce is a left-handed dman. I wonder if he would make a good partner for EJ?

I think we will find out next year if we don't sign SOB.

I saw three or four LEM's games this season and he looks like Gorges that isn't too shabby with the puck on his stick. I have high hopes for this kid.

I've only seen him play 3 times for the Monsters, but I used to watch him regularly when he was captain of the Mississauga team here. This is a smart hockey player. He plays within his limits, make safe plays, and his physicality and defensive coverage just keep improving.

Man if he turns out like Gorges I'll be thrilled, can't wait to see the kid play in the big leagues once again.

That's actually pretty cool. Wonder if they will pair him with Elliott right away.

Elliott is our puck collector at the NHL level. They can't have him.

I think the fact that Gaunce is LH hurt his chances of being called this year. Hejda, Quincey, SOB, Wilson and Hubwick were all relatively healthy aside from Wilson.

There is only 2 regular righties in EJ and O'Byrne, and both missed some time this year.

Hopefully next year with Quincey and probably 1 of Hunwick or SOB gone (maybe both, who knows), we'll get to see Gaunce. Im excited about him.

Interesting, according to Capgeek, Cedrick Desjardins could be a Group 6 UFA this offseason as opposed to RFA. Do the Monsters retain him or do they opt for one of the kids?

Desjardins will be a Group 6 UFA this summer.

Conditions of Group 6:
- contract expired (check - July 1st, 2012)
- at least 25 years old (check - 26)
- at least 3 pro seasons at any level (check - 5)
- fewer than 28 NHL games played at minimum of 30 minutes (check - only 2 NHL games)

He would have had to play at least 30 minutes in at least 26 games this season...with 2 regular season games left, he'd basically have to play in both of those, plus every game of the playoffs, all the way to the 7th game of the cup finals....

If Ben Bishop can get a chance in the NHL, I wouldn't be surprised if Desjardins get a shot as a backup somewhere. He is still young and has put up very impressive numbers in the AHL.

He didn't get enough games in the NHL for Tampa to keep his rights and now he doesn't get enough games in the NHL for Avs to keep his rights.

---

Is it me who is a bit touchy or isn't keeping Elliott up here as the 8th D a giant FU to Lake Erie Monsters, when they are desperately fighting for a playoff spot and have been using several players on ATO's on defense.

I was eagerly anticipating seeing him playing with the Avs (as Varly and Giggy supposedly were supposed to be injured all the time), but instead it was Desjardins who got injured instead of our two top guys (bar a few minor 2-3 game injuries)

Desjardins' durability is becoming a bit of an issue, and might be the thing that keeps him from NHL success. He'll most assuredly land somewhere in the AHL/NHL next year, but I think the Monsters will let him walk.

As for disrespecting the Monsters, I think the bigger FU would have been to take Gaunce out of the lineup, which they didn't do. Bottom line, the Monsters are a farm team and they know it. If they want to ***** and moan about it like the Rochester Americans did before Pegula bought them, they shouldn't have renewed their affiliation with the Avs. If the Avs had NOTHING to play for and were keeping Elliott/Barrie then yes, that would be ridiculous. I imagine if the Avs were tanking they would've done what the Islanders did and sign some scrub to fill a roster spot instead of hurting their AHL affiliate's chances in the postseason.

Lake Erie has no reason to complain, without the Avs they wouldn't have been able to exist. Likewise, without LE, the Avs wouldn't be where they are now.

It's a mutual relationship. Though I do agree Elliott should be sent down, can LEM even make the playoffs anymore?

Aren't they tied with 8th?

EJ's back spasms might have been a factor for keeping Elliott up since it may be hard to know how serious it is.

I don't think LEM have complained about it and now they get Siemens, so perhaps they will be ok. It's mostly me that think Elliott needs to play considering how he has looked with Avs.
